Frankie TRUMBAUER and his Orchestra
Born Carbondale, IL. May 30, 1901. Nicknamed 'Tram', he was an influential saxophonist during the 1920's, working for Paul WHITEMAN through 1936. Worked as a test pilot during WWII and worked for the Civil Aeronautics Authority afterwards. Died Kansas City, MO. 6/11/56.
Trumbauer enjoys the unique distinction of undergoing the first sex-change operation performed by a record producer when Juke Box Records transgenderized his label credits. Ad copy read, "Frankie and her Boys hail from the Middle West, where they take their music as they find it-rough and ready. Here are really great Juke Box and Specialty Store recordings. They are worth double the price. They will coin riches for the operator and sell on one playing to anyone".
