VICTOR
Purchased by the Radio Corporation of America in 1929, RCA was not added to the logo until the 1940's. Eli Oberstein's alma mater is not typically regarded as a party label but in the 1930's it did record risque items for personal distribution, white label with BS-prefixed matrix numbers (CS for 12" discs, PBS/PCS for Hollywood recordings) and no logo. See also FISKANA, Victor is now owned by BMG.
Larry VINCENT
b. San Jose, CA. Jan. 13, 1901 d. Jan. 5, 1977 Forrest Hills, KY. College educated, he composed legit tunes and was pianist with L. Wolfe Gilbert. Referred to himself as the musical answer to W.C. Fields. Formed PEARL Record Co. in 1946. Despite the variety of artist credits on Pearl, practically everything is by Vincent. Applied to ASCAP just as it began a campaign against 'smutty' songs, finally admitted in 1947. He also recorded ballads which are not detailed here.
--The first entry is a version of a piece recorded as 'Birth Control' by PURE & SIMPLE which may indicate that Vincent wrote it.
