BELL BLUE RIBBON SERIES
A personal label of Benny BELL copyright 1945. Apparently Benny felt like a winner after VE Day as a few of his BELL NOVELTY RECORDS appeared with this imprint.

BELL NOVELTY RECORDS
A personal label of Benny BELL copyrighted in 1940 produced by Specialty Sales of New York, NY. 1946 Bell Records 1658 Broadway, NY. (Same address as RADIO NOVELTY) Known range 120-963. Powder blue label with dark blue or black print.

Benny BELL
Real name Ben Samberg, born March 21, 1906, died on July 6, 1999. Bell underwent a revival in the mid-1970's as radio stations ventured to play 'Shaving Cream', which eventually made it to the top 30 singles. (The first Vanguard reissue mistakenly used Phil WINSTON's recording.) Note that many of this Borscht Belt veteran's records are not risque, some are not even intended to be comic but they are listed here for the sake of completeness. RADIO NOVELTY and BELL NOVELTY shared the same address and it is not certain if the performances which appear on both labels are identical.
--The first RADIO NOVELTY entry is known only from a list which indicated it was "one-sided." If this was meant to indicate a jukebox record it probably dates from c. 1936. If it is just a pressing with a blank reverse or test tones then it would be from the 1940's.

Ray BOURBON
Real name probably Hal Waddell, b. Texarkana, TX 1892. Worked in vaudeville with Bert Sherry as "Bourbon and Sherry". He may have made radio history when his "Boys Will Be Girls" review was raided by the police during a 1932 broadcast. Club dates, frequent arrests and extensive recordings followed in the 1930's and '40's. He was featured in Mae West's production 'Catherine Was Great' and a revival of 'Diamond Lil'. He attempted to revive his flagging career by announcing a (fake) sex-change operation in 1956. Died of a heart attack in Big Spring, TX July 19, 1971 while serving 99 years for murder.

Sidney S. BROWN
Sidney S. Brown (CBC Broadcaster)- voices.
Jules Lipton (CBC Producer)-production and sound effects.
Brown was a well known sports announcer in Canada but his most enduring work is the classic farting contest. Possibly recorded at "Red" Foster's Studios on Alcorn Avenue in Toronto, ca. late 1940 on one 16" lacquer disc. It was distributed as a holiday giveaway to industry clients via instantaneous discs. Reportedly it was played at a New Year's Eve party in 1943 where an unidentified admiral decided it would make a great morale booster for his sailors. Whether there ever were such under-the-counter V-Discs or not, about 1947 78 RPM masters were dubbed and two 12" 78's (four sides) were pressed (mx. xxx1-4) by Columbia as The 1946 Canadian Crepitation Contest on the TRILLBLOWlabel (complete with cover art by Alex Steinweiss) as a premium for its distributors but though CBS president Ted Wallerstein nixed the project, copies did circulate.
The flatulant sports spoof was released by a west coast source on 12" white label discs with sides in automatic sequence (coupled 1/4 & 2/3):
(B1577X) 1....*** unnumbered (KFI-1)
(B1578) 2.....*** unnumbered (KFI-2)
(B1579X) 3....*** unnumbered (KFI-3)
(B1580) 4.....*** unnumbered (KFI-4)
and yet a third release:
Battle at Thunderblow--Windesmeare vs. Boomer Parts 1/2...*** unnumbered
Battle at Thunderblow--Windesmeare vs. Boomer Parts 3/4...*** unnumbered
Later issued on three 10" records in the late 1940's as the International Crepitation Contest on 10" un-numbered HUMOR:
Part 1 "Introducing Lord Windismere World's Champion" (CREP-1)
Part 2 "Introducing Lord Boomer Leading Contender" (CREP-2)
Part 3 "At the Post" (R-3)
Part 4 "Lord Windismere's Defiance" (R-4)
Part 5 "Crescendo" (CREP-5)
Part 6 "Disaster" (CREP-6)

as well as another 10" white label release titled "World's Championship" in automatic sequence coupled: parts 1/4................*** 5001A/B (FL 5001A/B)
parts 2/5................................***5002 (FL5002A/B)
and 3/6........................***5003 (FL5003A/B)
--finally, an edited version on four 10" black label sides:
The Championship parts 1/4..........*** unnumbered (306/307)
The Championship parts 2/3..........*** unnumbered (308/309)
The master was last reported to be at RCA VICTOR in Toronto.

BRUZ FLETCHER SINGS
A personal label of Bruz FLETCHER. Issues HO 102/103 and HO 106/107 (which dates from 1937) known and were recorded at the Associated Cinema Studios in Hollywood. White label with red print, laminated pressing.
BURLESQUE
New York, 101 & 102 reported plus number 18, perhaps from a different incarnation.
BURLY-Q
Known range 2-15, plus unnumbered issues on an orange label with black print with no matrix numbers on the label or in the runout. These anonymous late 1940's issues seem to parallel FUN. Later pressings have no decorative border around the label and the side designations precede the release numbers.
