Love Angel

I met the angel walking clown the road
Burdened with a large and heavy load
I knew him by the garment that he wore
I questioned him about the load he bore

He said, "My son, the gift of God above
Has always been the greatest gift of love.
This load which you see I carry now
Is love that men have failed to use somehow."

I bowed my head in shame and shed a tear
The words the angel spoke I heard so clear
He said, "The love that lovers never use
Is here with all the happiness they lose.

When men desire the death of other men
The love they lose returns to God again.
When hatred fills their hearts and blinds their eyes,
The load I carry grows to greater size."
