Subject: Garnet Rogers' book From: ChanteyLass Date: 05 Jun 16 - 10:31 PM Garnet Rogers has posted this, with the cover photo, on his Facebook page. Well...this has been a funny day already, and it ends funnier still. The BOOK..the long promised and much feared book has just been delivered to our house. I have a limited number of advance copies in my possession, with many more on the way. I will be bringing them to my show tomorrow (Friday) at the Ark in Ann Arbor Michigan, and to the show in Traverse City on Sunday. I will have more next week when I play in Nova Scotia, (details later) and am hoping by then to have them available from the website. Very odd feeling to spend the better part of 3 years on a project, and finally get the actual finished product in one's hands. I have to say, it looks pretty good, and the folks at Ball Media in Brantford did a great job on the lay out and printing. IT'S A REAL GODDAMNED BOOK. I need to lie down now. |

Subject: RE: Garnet Rogers book From: Charley Noble Date: 30 Oct 19 - 11:38 AM I'm about halfway through NIGHT DRIVE: Travels with My Brother by Garnet Rogers and find it a fascinating read. Clearly Garnet is one who writes down only the extremes, the best and the worst of times. Well, that's what we all tend to remember. But Garnet has a much richer well to dredge than most of us. The chapter that I could comment on from direct experience is titled "The Ten Pound Fiddle" (folk club in East Lansing, Michigan) and is generally positive, accurate, and very funny. However, I did not brew high test moonshine at Rivendell Co-op where the band stayed the night; we poured them lab absolute alcohol (near 200 proof) instead. We did in truth serve them "placenta helper" for dinner, in response to their dismissive comments about vegetarian food. But you should buy and read the book and draw your own conclusions. Cheerily, Charlie Ipcar |
