Subject: Tune Req: Farewell to Nova Scotia From: GUEST,Bruce Smith Date: 05 Apr 16 - 04:51 PM Greetings All, I am interested in the origin of the tune to which "Farewell to Nova Scotia" is sung. The history of the song seems to have been chewed over in past threads. As discussed, the words to Soldier's Adieu (poem by Tannehill c.1800) were set to the tune of The Peacock (quite a bit older yet), which is most commonly associated The Parting Glass. Could that tune have evolved into the current melody that we know as Farewell to Nova Scotia? In one of the old threads someone suggested similarities with Lowlands Low (Sharp version). Any help appreciated. Thanks. Bruce |
