There are huge Jewish communities within The UK, both integrated and clustered. As well as the internationally well known Jewish quarters of London, there are large communities in Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow in particular, but most large towns and cities have multiple synagogues. That said, as with all cultural and heritage labels, the presence of organised religion is somewhat irrelevant. Most people proud of their Jewish ancestry over here like bacon butties as much as I do and their grandparents would not understand their lack of belief in fairy stories any more than my grandparents wouldn't understand that I have never been in a church for anything other than weddings and funerals. |

The usages of such popular & influential NY based writers as Damon Runyon, Dorothy Parker, Ring Lardner, not themselves necessarily Jewish, seem to me nevertheless much influenced in their turn by Yiddish-derived rhythms and idioms.
