Subject: BS: No so random acts of kindness From: Bruce Baker Date: 06 Dec 15 - 08:20 PM I was talking to a friend today who lamented her 90+ year old mother lived alone in rural Iowa and had no close access to music. She used to pile the family into the car, head into town - 5 miles - to go caroling through the streets and neighborhoods. The town church is too tiny to support a choir. She cannot be the only one in this isolation. What if we create a forum through Social Media and volunteer as musician to commit an act of kindness to door knock and give the gift of song? I'd welcome ideas how we could orchestrate this and if there is a consensus of support to make it happen. Anyone near Iowa City? |

Subject: RE: BS: No so random acts of kindness From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 07 Dec 15 - 12:06 AM GREAT IDEA!!....but I'm a few hundred miles away..but I'd do it if closer. However, I do go to a local nursing home/extended care hospital, and play piano for them, as often as I can. These people REALLY appreciate it, and are a focused audience!! Perhaps you can take her to a musical or something like that. She might go for a 'big band' sound, being as it would be age appropriate. In any event, God Bless and Good luck!! Regards!! GfS |

Subject: RE: BS: Not so random acts of kindness From: Dorothy Parshall Date: 07 Dec 15 - 06:16 PM I have heard tell that music is one of the last bits of memory lost. People who are unable to remember or to do very much, get excited over music and may remember the words to their old songs. Any musician or semi-musician, who brings music into the lives of the elderly is doing a great kindness. Before GfS goes apeshit, there were no "deleted posts" from this thread. If you posted here, it didn't stick. --mudelf |
