Subject: BS: Arya Stark on Doctor Who From: Dave the Gnome Date: 18 Oct 15 - 03:03 PM Anyone else see it or is just us sad geeks? :-) My favourite Capaldi episode so far BTW. |

Subject: RE: BS: Arya Stark on Doctor Who From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Oct 15 - 04:20 PM I'm a bit behind on the current series. Not really a Capaldi fan though, and the scripts seem to be getting less and less rational. Too much running about and not enough thinking. |

Subject: RE: BS: Arya Stark on Doctor Who From: Richard Bridge Date: 19 Oct 15 - 06:45 PM I've caught up. The "Woman who Died" has an interesting hint at the future, in the light of the Davros episodes. I got the closing line uttered before the TV did! |

Subject: RE: BS: Arya Stark on Doctor Who From: Jack Blandiver Date: 20 Oct 15 - 05:33 AM Nice to see a return to low-to-basic production values; I especially liked the Fisher King & his space-shuttle-cum-hearse had just the right vibe. Nice to see the Special Weapons Dalek getting an airing (his second since his debut in 1988) but Vikings with horned helmets? Me-thinks they're getting a little too cleverly self-conscious in their self-paroldy. Bought the new Music of Dr. Who magazine special the other day if only for the picture of Delia Derbyshire (swoon). I think that's what's missing - the sonics are just too ordinary on Nu-Who. Long gone are the days when the Tardis could materialise in a scrap-yard to a radiophonic mytho-poetic parody of Grainer's Old Ned. In these haunted hauntological times you'd think the producers would get with-it! |

Subject: RE: BS: Arya Stark on Doctor Who From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Oct 15 - 06:49 AM I don't see why the production should not use the stereotype of horned helmets for soi-disant (but not really) Vikings. If it was good enough for Wagner it's probably good enough for the BBC. It would have confused many viewers if the "Vikings" had not worn the stereotypical helmets. |

Subject: RE: BS: Arya Stark on Doctor Who From: GUEST Date: 20 Oct 15 - 07:38 AM Not seen any of this series yet. Got it on series record, so being cautious looking here in case of spoilers.. Mrs punkfolkrocker will probably dictate we catch up on the entire recent series of Nashville first.... Though she is a big Dr Who fan... "Not really a Capaldi fan though, and the scripts seem to be getting less and less rational. Too much running about and not enough thinking." When I first heard Capaldi got the job, my initial thoughts were as he's a few months older than me, there'd actually be more sitting down... and telling the younger assistants and space monster of the week to settle down quiet for a bit while he has an after dinner snooze... |

Subject: RE: BS: Arya Stark on Doctor Who From: Jack Blandiver Date: 20 Oct 15 - 07:41 AM I'm sure many viewers are re-enactment larpers with a pedantic eye for historical cliche. I'd go as far as to suggest they were the target audience (as well as the extras??!!). However small that community might be, it might have obliged rather than rubbing their noses in it. |
