Heard the full 'Star of the County Down' on Wogan over the weekend. "Avenues and Alleyways" was not quite as good but it was the first time they had performed it in public! |

Letter from America was, unless I am very much mistaken, the Proclaimers. Bit of a play on words with Christie's 'Avenues and Alleyways' being the theme tune for the Protectors. |

I must admit that when I first heard him being interviewed on Wogan I thought he may do the 'put on Oirish' folky voice. Luckily I was wrong. It is also his background - His grandparents were from County Mayo - Grandma played fiddle and Granddad the squeeze box. He was brought up in Yorkshire but from an early age he found that if he sang while his Dad playing the piano people would give him sixpence. He decided then it was a good way to make a living and stuck at it! Good on him :-) |
