Subject: Tune Req: Born Free A Heart Must Wander From: Galloping Gwdihw Date: 06 Jun 15 - 11:30 PM Hello folks, somebody wrote the lyrics to this song down in a Tanners Hatch YHA log book a long long time ago but I'm curious to know what it sounds like actually sung... does anyone know where I can find the tune, or better still, an actual recording of it, please?! Cheers x Born free a heart must wander Born free a heart must roam Out there the hills over yonder Seem to be calling me home Out there a restless wind blows That's where I long to be I must go where the wind goes Just like the wind, I was born to be free. My heart has no chains The world must be mine to explore The hills and the plains Are waiting just outside my door Don't wait for my returning There's much I must see I must follow this yearning Feed this fire that is burning I was born to be free. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Born Free A Heart Must Wander From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 07 Jun 15 - 12:03 AM It might be a variant Don Black' s title song for the film "Born Free" 1966. Sincerely, Gargoyle Explain (country, nearest city) Tanner's Hatch" hostel......and decade for "long time ago." |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Born Free A Heart Must Wander From: GUEST,# Date: 07 Jun 15 - 07:15 AM https://itunes.apple.com/nz/album/born-free-single/id402049927 Song 200 on that site is named Born Free. I have no way to give it a listen. The song you want is a Girl Scout song which I think you've determined by now (if your name is Iris). It appears as a poem in a few spots and the lyrics don't differ from those you've presented. However, I have been unable to hear the song at that link. If you could check it out and yea or nay it, that would help narrow things down a bit. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Born Free A Heart Must Wander From: Galloping Gwdihw Date: 20 Jun 15 - 05:23 AM Thanks for the replies, both. It's definitely not a variant of Don Black's 'Born Free' and the iTunes link links to a different song altogether from the one I'm trying to find... thanks for trying to help though! :) |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Born Free A Heart Must Wander From: GUEST Date: 25 Aug 15 - 02:03 AM @gargoyle: Sorry, I missed the bit in italics at the bottom of your post, lol.... Tanners Hatch Youth Hostel is near Dorking in Surrey, England, and I'd guess the decade "Born Free A Heart Must Wander" was written down in the log book was the 70's... |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Born Free A Heart Must Wander From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 25 Aug 15 - 10:49 AM That's a hard poem to set to music, because it's irregular in meter and different lines are different lengths. You can't just devise one or two themes and set the verses to them. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Born Free A Heart Must Wander From: GUEST,Valerie Magee Date: 26 Jul 18 - 09:00 AM This song was recorded by The Brothers Four. It's on You Tube, along with a picture of the 45 of "Try to Remember" shown as side 2. I wonder if that was a random choice of a photo, or if the A side was this song? |
