Subject: Folklore: Bothy reaches 50 From: GUEST,LesB Date: 25 Apr 15 - 05:01 AM Born 1965 still going 2015...... The Bothy is celebrating it's 50th birthday this weekend. It all kicked off with a packed ceilidh with Hekety last night. Next I'm off around town with the Southport Swords ( a Bothy offshoot along with Argarmeles Clogs), doing a couple of spots at the free concert in the town center, pop in to the session this afternoon & then this evening at the grand party. We are still celebrating on Sunday with two sell out concerts at the regular Bothy venue (afternoon & evening). If you haven't got tickets for anything, never mind we still have a packed program of guests for the rest of the year & onwards, if you have got tickets I'll see you there. Oh! and Southport Brewery have brewed a special 'Bothy Gold' beer for us which is available at several pubs in the area ( very good it is too) Cheers Les |

Subject: RE: Bothy reaches 50 From: GUEST,Joe Costello Date: 26 Apr 15 - 04:34 PM I was a regular back in the early days and got friendly with a chap from Liverpool who would get up and do the odd - very basic- blues number. A few years later, this chap, Frank Higgins - to my surprise - wrote a wonderful song called " The Testimony of Patience Kershaw". |

Subject: RE: Bothy reaches 50 From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 27 Apr 15 - 10:23 AM A well organised, long lasting club such as the Bothy has done so much good for the folk scene by way of it's regular sessions, and spin-offs like the Swords and the Cloggies. They must have introduced hundreds of people to the world of folk in the course of 50 years. Well done Bothy and all who sail in her. Here's to the next 50. Roy Harris. |
