Subject: RE: TMSA AWARDS IN INVERNESS From: Gallus Moll Date: 14 Dec 14 - 07:36 PM Traditional Music Awards were set up by Simon Thoumire 12 years ago (he also set up Foot Stompin website, including a great forum -- sadly most of the site / shop etc have now closed down, and the forum is about to, tho I believe it will be reincarnated in a different format/under a different name0 check footstompin forum for - info before 18 December! Traditional Music and Song Association was set up by Pete Shepherd much longer ago, can't remember exactly how far back but probably at least 30 years? Check the website for info (which I ought to have done before posting!) |

Subject: RE: TMSA Awards in Inverness From: Tattie Bogle Date: 15 Dec 14 - 04:31 AM Gallus Moll is correct over the confusion in terminology and (hence incorrect thread title). The TMSA ( Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland) started life in 1966, so is not far short of FIFTY years old. It does sponsor the Scots Singer of the Year Award within the Scots Trad Music Awards. The full title for the awards is the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards: MG ALBA has been sponsor since 2008, and yes, this was the 12th year of the awards overall. Some of the awards were not shown in the TV coverage, but you can get the full list from Bruce's link above. |

Subject: RE: TMSA Awards in Inverness From: Johnny J Date: 15 Dec 14 - 05:00 AM The Trad Awards and TMSA are a strange mix. The former is Simon's baby and he tends to be highly impressed by the innovative, experimental, "fireworks on stage" side of things. However, he realises that there is also another side to Trad music and attempts to cover all bases. The TMSA try to do their best to "keep him right" as they see it. The rest of us make up our own minds but everyone's hearts are arguably in the right place. ;-)) |
