Subject: Topette From: GUEST Date: 13 Nov 14 - 06:02 AM AS 'Catters know, I'm into jazz, blues & skiffle so my interests lie more in US folk music than UK. Also, if you'd told me I'd enjoy a band with French bagpipes, fiddle, squeeze box and bodhran, I'd laugh. However, on Tuesday I saw the launch of Andy Cutting's (diatonic accordion and melodeon)new band Topette with James Delarre on fiddle, Julien Cartonnet on 2 sorts of French bagpipe and tenor banjo, Tania Buisse on bodhran and Barnaby Stradling on acoustic bass guitar. Excellent evening all instrumental, varied sounds from UK to Balkan. I was surprised no-one got up to dance. Also the audience was mostly 60+ (unlike the blues rock band I saw last week- I was the oldest by a generation!)unlike the band. They're in Bristol tonight, go see 'em. RtS |

Subject: RE: Topette From: GUEST,surreysinger Date: 13 Nov 14 - 07:43 PM I was also at Ascot on Tuesday, and would echo the sentiments - great band. It wasn't a venue for dancing in though - no way of squeezing through the tables to the front with ease I suspect. Lot of foot tapping going on though. And Mr Skiffler - you forgot the banjo! |
