Subject: TSF - seminar & concert in Kings Lynn From: Martin Graebe Date: 01 Oct 14 - 02:58 PM The Traditional Song Forum will be meeting in King's Lynn on Saturday 11 October at Marriott's Warehouse, - our first visit to East Anglia. We will have an interesting programme of talks, songs and music during the day and a concert of East Anglian music, featuring Damian Barber, in the evening. Locals Alan Helsdon and Katie Howson and their friends and colleagues have not only organised a great day for us on the Saturday, but have also fitted some super events around it, starting with a sing-around on Friday Evening. Have a look at the day-plan, which is can be found using the link on the front page of the TSF website - www.tradsong.org . The event is open to anyone who wishes to come along, as well as to TSF members. There is no charge for the day-time programme (though a donation would be appreciated). There is a modest entry charge for the evening concert. If you would like to come to the seminar, to the evening concert, or both, we would appreciate it if you could let us know - then we will know how many cakes we need to bake (Really!). Subject: RE: TSF - seminar & concert in Kings Lynn From: Steve Gardham Date: 01 Oct 14 - 05:44 PM Seeing as Martin has started this thread, I ought perhaps to add that the TSF as a national group affiliated to the EFDSS, with members all over the country and some abroad, has been running now for many years. We have about 4 meetings a year spread out around the country. Most members are involved in research in folk song and related genres and many are published authors, though not all are academics. The only real qualification you need to join basically is an interest in traditional folk song. The morning sessions usually involve networking, giving brief summaries of recent research and exchanging ideas, and the afternoons are usually reserved for presentations by members and guests, often local to wherever the meeting is held. Martin, a list of say the places of the last 10 meetings would give an idea of the geographical spread. |
