Subject: BS: Questions re: Pneumonia From: Ebbie Date: 19 Sep 14 - 03:50 PM I have a cold. A tight chest and a non-productive - but loud - cough. I am head-achy and tired. Last spring I landed in the hospital with pneumonia. It was a great surprise to me since I'd never been diagnosed with it before. Now, I'm scared. What are the chances that I'll end up with pneumonia again? What would be the symptoms? After that last bout, my doctor suggested that I get a pneumonia shot, something I didn't even know existed. I didn't get it- although I planned to get it the next time I was in the neighborhood. I suspect that at the moment a shot would not be advisable and that I should wait until I am non-symptomatic. Any ideas? |

Subject: RE: BS: Questions re: Pneumonia From: Jack Campin Date: 19 Sep 14 - 03:57 PM There are many different kinds of pneumonia, ranging from viral types that leave you sick, tired and breathless for months to bacterial types that will kill you within hours. If you have a bacterial type you want to get antibiotics for it. Viral ones are not very treatable. |

Subject: RE: BS: Questions re: Pneumonia From: Janie Date: 19 Sep 14 - 09:18 PM Go see your doctor, Ebbie. Let him decide if now is the time. Also let him decide if you need to be on medication for the respiratory ailment you have now. You ain't no spring chicken and don't want to take any chances. And if now is not the time to get the vaccine, when it is the time, get it. Pneumonia kills. BTW, there is now a second pneumonia vaccine that addresses a different kind of pneumonia that is available in combination with some of this year's flu vaccines. Please take care of yourself - for the sake of many people. |

Subject: RE: BS: Questions re: Pneumonia From: Ebbie Date: 20 Sep 14 - 04:08 AM I talked with my doctor by phone today. She said that if it would make me feel better about it I can come in, that an Xray would show whether there is lung involvement. I told her that if it weren't for the pneumonia of last spring it wouldn't occur to me to see a doctor. She said, OK. If it isn't better by Monday call and they'll get me in. In the meantime rest and drink lots of liquids. I am sloshing. :) |
