Subject: BS: Anyone crossing the pond soon? From: GUEST,Sharyn Date: 08 Aug 14 - 10:01 AM Hi folks, I've had a request for some recordings from a woman who lives in Cornwall and I live in California. Shipping a CD and a cassette tape may be prohibitive. I was wondering if anyone had plans to travel to England in the near future and if I might send the package by you. Can't blame me for trying. You can leave a message or suggestion here or PM (click) me. Thanks. |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone crossing the pond soon? From: Gibb Sahib Date: 08 Aug 14 - 04:08 PM Do these recordings need to go on a four-masted barque around Cape Horn? It'll take about 130 days to reach, but it's your only option. |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone crossing the pond soon? From: sharyn Date: 08 Aug 14 - 09:28 PM I don't have any way of turning the cassette into MP3s, nor have I bought online distribution licenses for the cover tunes on the CD (online licenses are also prohibitively expensive and have to be renewed every year). Theoretically, I could make files out of my own compositions from the CD, and I might do that, but the potential customer has requested all of my recorded material. If I pay twenty dollars in postage, that puts me in the hole, which I am trying to avoid since I make a meager income as a busker and odd-jobs person. |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone crossing the pond soon? From: GUEST,Guest - Lin Date: 09 Aug 14 - 03:14 AM Shipping a CD & cassette in a very small box is not be prohibitive. Just wrap the CD & cassette around some bubble wrap and put into box. You can buy small boxes at the post office that a CD & tape will fit into and it should not cost as much as $20.00 to ship it. Just be sure you use proper mailing tape to secure box (scotch tape is not permitted and not secure enough anyway.) I am also in California and have shipped CDs and tapes overseas and it did not cost $20.00! You also have to get a declaration label (free) from the post office and declare the contents inside the box and the approx. value. Doesn't have to be exact but just whatever you feel the value is (the cost of the CD and the cassette.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone crossing the pond soon? (from US) From: GUEST,jts Date: 09 Aug 14 - 12:30 PM Is it possible that you could pay to get the cassette and tape duplicated to mp3 for less than the amount you are charging? If so, cost of medis for the next time you sell copies will be $0.00. Something to think about and you won't need a licence to email the files. |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone crossing the pond soon? (from US) From: GUEST,Sol Date: 09 Aug 14 - 07:38 PM Just a thought. I would have reservations about taking a pre-packed package from a stranger on a plane. Could be anything inside. You would also have to lie when they asked you if you packed everything yourself. Post it. Always worked for me in the past. |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone crossing the pond soon? (from US) From: sharyn Date: 10 Aug 14 - 02:20 PM Thanks, everyone. I got the $20 figure from the USPS website when I researched the cheapest option. The next step is going down there with an unsealed package, having them weigh it and look at the destination and getting an actual quote. Depending on what the postal clerk has to say, I may or may not still be looking for another option. |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone crossing the pond soon? (from US) From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 10 Aug 14 - 09:27 PM Just Do It. Sincerely, Gargoyle Just do it. This is NOT a big deal. USPS will even provide the envelope. You can present it all sealed...standard questions...are along the lines of...."Does this package contain...batteries, organic materials such as fruits or vegetable, volitol liquid like gasoline...or illegal substances?" |
