Subject: BS: Silver into Copper -- how?? From: GUEST,Claire M Date: 16 May 14 - 06:41 AM Hiya !!. I've got some lovely silver-plated heart earrings, my aunty's got the same, & she says when you have them for a few yrs the silver comes off to reveal the copper underneath (she's on her 2nd pair now) I love copper jewellery. I know some of you make your own – anyone know how to make this happen more quickly?? |

Subject: RE: BS: Silver into Copper -- how?? From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 16 May 14 - 12:15 PM The fast way is 95% conc. sulfuric acid/5% conc. nitric acid, and a little heat. Dangerous unless you are used to working with corrosive, toxic chemicals. Try using a fine grade of sandpaper. The finer the better, go slow. |

Subject: RE: BS: Silver into Copper -- how?? From: Greg F. Date: 16 May 14 - 12:50 PM Safest was is to electroplate the silver off the copper - the reverse of how it was applied in the first place. Earrings to the anode & a piece of copper/brass to the cathode. The old silver-plating solutions contained cyanide, but I believe there are now non-toxic alternatives, if you hunt around. |
