Subject: Chippenham info please From: G-Force Date: 16 May 14 - 06:07 AM We're off to Chippenham, first time for nearly 20 years, so grateful for some help on a couple of questions. First, is the campsite open on Thursday? We can't get there on Friday until the afternoon and fear the caravan field my be pretty full by then. Second, where and when are the best pubs for tune sessions (not mainly Irish). Thanks a lot and can't wait after all this time! |

Subject: RE: Chippenham info lplease From: Manitas_at_home Date: 16 May 14 - 06:20 AM Sessions are in the New Tavern, London Rd and the Rose and Crown. There are probably others - the Old Road Tavern is mainly Irish. |

Subject: RE: Chippenham info lplease From: Mr Red Date: 16 May 14 - 04:54 PM Campsite 2 Thursday is theoretically for stewards because they are inevitably still marking-out the pitches with a surveyors precision at 6pm. But you could try it on. Be prepared to move your van as requested. Have your ticket proof handy as you arrive. Old Road Tavern hosts more than one session on occasions and one more on Sunday night in the Barn when it is wall to wall French with barely enough room to dance - but we do. New Inn can be a good craic, if my memory serves they didn't have a Rose & Crown one year - usual landlord with ideas caper. Not sure lately because they can be snooty about Bodhrans despite the usual care and attention that drummers bring to the party. It was in the Angel that year and there is a coffee bar in the Market Square that welcomes sessions but you know how those things work - if someone is playing the musicians will linger, if the players wait for people then with no music there is no perceived session. And no amount of reminding will drum it into the session starters. |

Subject: RE: Chippenham info lplease From: Mr Red Date: 18 May 14 - 04:57 PM the stewarding application form on their website says The Campsite opens at 12:30 on Wednesday and closes at 10:30 on Tuesday But that is most certainly intended to inform stewards. |
