Subject: BS: off to Ireland on Monday From: GUEST,mg Date: 12 Apr 14 - 11:36 PM I'll arrive in Dublin, take train to Tralee, Bus to DIngle..stay in Dingle and Dunquin for about 9 days..back to Dublin for 2 nights..staying in Jacob's Hostel near major train station. Any insights? I want to stop by Annascaul in Tom Crean's pub because he might be a relative. I would love help photoshopping a fuzzy photo because I am going to see if I can have my ggf's picture hung in a pub in Dingle with some of his contemporaries...printed out 8 x 11 it is just pure fuzz..could anyone sharpen it? I have no time or the right program to do it. You can leave messages for me through pm here if you want to get together... |

Subject: RE: BS: off to Ireland on Monday From: Noreen Date: 13 Apr 14 - 08:13 AM What size is the original photo, Mary? (I assume you have the original.) You need to scan it in high resolution in order to achieve a clear enlargement. If the resolution is too low, Photoshop won't be able to remove the 'fuzz'. |

Subject: RE: BS: off to Ireland on Monday From: Noreen Date: 13 Apr 14 - 03:00 PM Oh dear. Is there any way you can get the provider of the jpeg to re-scan it for you in high resolution? jpeg is great for everyday use, because it IS low resolution therefore quick to send, print etc. But for high quality work and particularly for enlargement, you need higher resolution. The following link gives you some figures to look at: Image Resolution, size, and compression |

Subject: RE: BS: off to Ireland on Monday From: Thompson Date: 14 Apr 14 - 06:06 PM Mind yourself in Jacob's. It's in quite a rough area. Fine during the day (though hold on to your stuff carefully), but be extra careful at night. You might enjoy the reprise of the Battle of Clontarf, which is being refought in St Anne's Park next Saturday (April 10) between the Vikings of Dublin and those sly, pushy types from Clare. UP THE DUBS! http://www.brianborumillennium.ie/dublin/2014/04/battle-clontarf-viking-festival/ |

Subject: RE: BS: off to Ireland on Monday From: GUEST,MG Date: 14 Apr 14 - 06:56 PM Oh dear..it sounded nice on the internet. I need to know about Easter Monday..are buses likely to be running? I mean the local between Dunquin and Dingle. Also, I hear pubs are closed on Good Friday..seeing as it seems to be the only food in Dunquin I am a bit concerned. |

Subject: RE: BS: off to Ireland on Monday From: GUEST,mg Date: 14 Apr 14 - 06:59 PM oh gosh. Today is MOnday. I am leaving to get to Portland in just a few minutes. Would have to be there at 4 a.m. tomorrow so I am just going to go there and stay up and read. Tomorrow will be a long day and night of travel but then I will be there. If anyone is in Dingle 17-23 or 24 or Dublin 26 and 27 let me know via PM. |

Subject: RE: BS: off to Ireland on Monday From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 14 Apr 14 - 11:02 PM I suggest you note the GUEST admonition. "Pubs closed on Good Friday" can be a real shock. Sincerely, Gargoyle how dry I am. |

Subject: RE: BS: off to Ireland on Monday From: Thompson Date: 15 Apr 14 - 04:18 AM Buses on Easter Monday… it's a bank holiday, so buses should be running on a Sunday schedule. I don't know about the local bus between Dunquin and Dingle. The Bus Éireann site seems to suggest that the bus is only on Mondays and Thursdays; bank holiday Mondays would normally be excluded from such services, but a lot of people go to Kerry for Easter, so it's quite possible that the bus will be running. Dunquin Youth Hostel (phone number on site), or the place you're staying should be able to tell you if you ring them up. |

Subject: RE: BS: off to Ireland on Monday From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 15 Apr 14 - 08:26 AM Busses will be scarce in areas like that out side the tourist season, if there are any at all. My sister in law is visiting at the moment, my wife picked her up from Cork airport on Thursday and they took the milkroute back to Clare. They said Dingle was very very quiet with most businesses still closed. Mt wife had booked the ma B&B in Castlemaine, when they had settled in she asked the owner when she opened for the season. 'After Easter' she said, 'but I had to be getting ready so I took your booking anyway'. On the plus side, the weather has been lovely for a while and will stay decent for a few more days. We downed tools yesterday and walked the length of the Cliffs of Moher from Liscannor to Doolin and it couldn't have been nicer. Got a fierce sunburn though. |
