Subject: Black Diamond Folk Club's 50 years From: Desred Date: 20 Mar 14 - 01:00 PM Starting as The Macdonalds Folk Song Club in 1964 and now known as The Black Diamond Folk Club, this highly respected club is fast approaching its celebration weekend on the weekend of 16-18 May. 17 changes of venue, including one as recently as last October, have not prevented it from still being one of the finest tradtional song clubs in the country. If you used to go to the club, or appeared as an artist, and wish to share your memories then please do so. We'd love to hear from you. Details of our 50th anniversary celebrations, a full history and much more can be found at www.blackdiamondfolkclub.org.uk. Tickets have all gone for the Friday concert with Pete Coe, a former club resident, but remain available for the Saturday's 2 fine concerts and buffet, while a singaround on Sunday is free. |

Subject: RE: Black Diamond Folk Club's 50 years From: GUEST,surreysinger sans cookie Date: 20 Mar 14 - 04:21 PM I have very fond memories of the gig that Ralphie Jordan and I played at the club in 2009 when we presented our show about Lucy Broadwood. After an horrendous journey up through thunderstorms we had such a warm and friendly reception that it made the ghastly journey well worth it. Congratulations on the anniversary. Had hoped to come up for it,but it now looks unlikely. |

I bekieve they lost money every time. Sorry Black Diamond! But congratulations , 50 yeas is a terrific record. Here's to even more. |

Subject: RE: Black Diamond Folk Club's 50 years From: Jamie McC Date: 19 May 14 - 03:54 PM A fantastic weekend of celebration for the Black Diamond's 50th. From Pete Coe's gig on Friday through the big event on Saturday, featuring Brian Peters, Major Mustard, Mary Humphreys & Anahata, John Conolly, and the Teacups to an almighty singers' session on Sunday, it was all superb stuff and a testament to the enduring quality of this fine club. As a relative newcomer, I felt privileged to see and hear so many names from throughout the club's history popping up to contribute a song or two. The club is clearly held in great affection by many people, and rightly so. A big thanks to Phil, Paul and the whole committee for organising such a splendid event. Oh, and the cake was great too! (as was all the food over the weekend) |
