Subject: Tune Add: the Charm Bracelet (for Mar 17?) From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 13 Mar 14 - 10:22 AM In the late 1700's, Thomas Moore (Irish) wrote a poem called 'Believe Me, if all These Endearing Young Charms,'. The poem was set to an existing tune, which is still known today. The other day I asked myself, "What if that tune had been a dance tune? How would it have sounded?" So as a way of passing the time, I went to the piano and turned Moore's love ballad into a jig. Next I had to think of a name for it, a name that would convey that it is different yet shares something with the old form. So I named it "The Charm Bracelet." We'll be playing it this Sunday to help celebrate St Patrick's Day. Other people are perfectly welcome to play it as well. I hereby declare it in the public domain. Click to play (joeweb) |

Subject: RE: Tune Add: the Charm Bracelet (for Mar 17?) From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Mar 14 - 01:51 PM MIDI posted. See link above. My Chromebook says it can't play MIDI files, and I don't have a PC with me. Anybody know how to set a Chromebook to play MIDIs, or at least can you tell me and leeneia if this one works and sounds good? -Joe- |

Subject: RE: Tune Add: the Charm Bracelet (for Mar 17?) From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 13 Mar 14 - 06:15 PM Wait! Cancel that! It does play if I do it in 2 steps. This is in Windows 7. 1. Right click on the link above that says "Click to Play" 2. Somewhere else on the screen, probably at the bottom, a little box appears that says CharmBracelet.mid Click on that, and another box appears that says 'Windows Media Player,' and the music starts itself. Another challenge surmounted! |

Subject: RE: Tune Add: the Charm Bracelet (for Mar 17?) From: GUEST,crazy little woman Date: 14 Mar 14 - 11:01 AM Thanks. I did something similar once - played 'Greensleeves' and then later, 'Green Sleeves and Yellow Lace' from O'Neill's Music of Ireland. Apparently only one person, a singer, could tell they were basically the same tune. |
