Subject: RE: Chord Req: banjo tuning of this song? From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 20 Feb 14 - 10:10 AM I agree with Leadfingers. My computer is in the shop, so to see what notes are in the song, I have to listen to the video, then step over to the piano and try to duplicate what I just heard. After doing that three times, I concur that there is a B flat in that tune. The song is probably in the F family, and Gm would be in the family. (Gm has the notes G-B-flat D) You may not need a special tuning, Mountaineer. It may simply be that you need to experiment with chords in the F family, chords which are not much used in sessions today. F, Gm, Am, B-flat, C, C7 Dm Those chords may have been chosen merely because they suited the singer's range, and if they don't suit you, you can change them once you've figured out what they are. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: banjo tuning of this song? From: GUEST,gillymor Date: 20 Feb 14 - 11:19 AM I'm playing along in Sawmill tuning (gDGCD first position, no capo) and it works. The first phrase seems to be similar to the commonly used one for Shady Grove. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: banjo tuning of this song? From: GUEST,mountaineer Date: 20 Feb 14 - 05:04 PM Thanks guys! Yes I think with the aid of you and people at Banjo hangout I've got this thing nailed. Sawmill tuning works well. Funny that Gillymor mentioned Shady Grove, since it is my all time fave, must be what draw to this song. |
