From: Eldergirl Date: 17 Jan 14 - 11:33 AM Meet at the Artichoke pub on Croxley Green, around 6.45 pm, ready to walk to Stone's Orchard to wassail the eldest apple tree. Singing and good cheer afterwards in one of the local hostelries. (Orchard not a long walk away.) |

Subject: RE: tonight is the Croxley Wassail. From: Eldergirl Date: 17 Jan 14 - 08:08 PM Apologies to all for my half-baked notice. I was about to add Hertfordshire when my phone did a back flip and submitted at top speed.. The Wassail went very well, about 100 villagers and visitors of all ages gathered round the old tree to sing to it and feed it with toast and cider, then all repaired to the Sportsman pub for morris dancing by Phoenix Morris, and a play from the Croxley Mummers. And a singaround after that. Sorry again for messing up the posting, it's the first Official Notice i've done on here and was a kind of Spur of the Moment thing.... Will be more careful next time. |

Subject: RE: tonight is the Croxley Wassail. From: Noreen Date: 18 Jan 14 - 01:59 PM Thanks for the interesting notice and report, Eldergirl. (It's good to bear in mind when posting here that this is an international forum, so "UK" as well in the thread title as well as more local geographical info is helpful.) |

Subject: RE: tonight is the Croxley Wassail. From: Eldergirl Date: 18 Jan 14 - 08:20 PM Thanks Noreen, will do better next time! It was nice to discover that the Croxley wassail gets a mention in Colin Cater's book 'Wassailing' - especially since it was only begun (restarted?) last year! X el |
