Subject: RE: BS: Don't upset the elephants... From: Will Fly Date: 14 Jan 14 - 11:40 AM That's scary! Luckily, there aren't any elephants on our village common, though I once had a run-in with a cheeky rabbit... |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't upset the elephants... From: GUEST,Musket Date: 14 Jan 14 - 01:02 PM If you do upset them, they'll never forget.. My brother has a picture of me in Thailand the other month falling off the makeshift seat on an elephant when it decided to crouch and scratch it's arse on a tree, and he was on the elephant behind mine. I'll never forgive that little ^%#%!! either... |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't upset the elephants... From: JohnInKansas Date: 14 Jan 14 - 01:14 PM The hazards of "cheeky rabbits" cannot be discounted, as one of our former US Presidents was in a small boat (fishing?) when a "rabbit assassin" with unknown intent swam toward the boat and had to be intercepted by the US Secret Service agents also in the boat. Once, while driving leisurely across the Maxwell Game Preserve after a pleasant day of fishing, I observed a VERY LARGE Bull Bison showing interest in me. Since I was driving a dark green 1970 VW Beetle, towing a light green 16' boat, he might have mistaken me for a tasty clump of grass, but as he approached he broke into a trot. With the towed load and poor traction on loose gravel, by the time I "matched his speed" the only thing I could see through the side window was his "beard" hanging about five feet away and about a foot above the top of the window. I managed sufficient speed to leave him about 20 feet behind by the time I reached the cattle guard at the gate (about 150 yards from where it all started). I didn't stop to ponder what his real intent was, as anything other than "lunch" suggested really unpleasant prospects. Animals, especially large ones but even bunnies, must be respected when we invade "their space." Sometimes its difficult to predict what will offend (or just interest) one. John |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't upset the elephants... From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 14 Jan 14 - 02:24 PM Digression, but the local zoo is sending three elephants to the Smithsonian National Zoo, where they will have company. A fourth (a male) was on loan from Miami Busch Gardens, and is being returned. (The zoo location will be changed; it would be difficult to put the beasts in a holding area. Secondly, zoo officials say the elephants are social animals and need a herd). |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't upset the elephants... From: MGM·Lion Date: 16 Jan 14 - 12:52 AM The link in OP will not work for me, tho others seem to be having no difficulty. Anyone else having trouble with it? Any chance of its being replaced with an alternative link? I should like to see for myself the subject of this interesting thread. Thank you. ~Michael~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't upset the elephants... From: Pete Jennings Date: 16 Jan 14 - 06:40 AM It was on the BBC News site, but it's gone now. Description of short amateur video: Big elephant with really big tusks. Tourist car approaches but gets too close and tries to do a reverse turn. As it gets sideways on the elephant uses his tusks like a fork lift truck and flips the car over. |
