Subject: Cheshire Folk Club - A new venue 2014 From: Busy Lizzie Date: 11 Jan 14 - 08:31 AM Well I realise I haven't been on Mudcat for over a year - sorry work and things getting in the way! My Cheshire Folk Club has been at it's new venue for some time now (the last one changed from a pub to a restaurant) and we are at The WHITE BEAR Middlewich Cheshire, on the main street, parking along the street or a few tight spaces behind the pub. If anyone would like to join us for a 'singaround style informal session' it is FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH 8pm upstairs. Bring along your favourite instrument, your voice and a few of your favourite songs or tunes and we can join in with you or we will happily opblige and listen to what you do. Always acoustic, all ages welcome and all abilities. Great real ale pub and a small flight of stairs! Home cooking if you come early enough. And if that isn't enough - we have occasional guests and a music weekend coming up. (I'll do a separate thread for that!) Flossie Malavialle and Brooks Williams with PJ Wright will do gigs and we'll do a full weekend of sessions and singarounds wtih our club friends. Website is dodgy at the moment so we are getting the word out by word of mouth - do contact me for details for the weekends' music. The upstairs room at the White Bear was, if I remember correctly, the venue for 'Breakfast with Les Barker' and a fantastic concert with NE3folk at last year's Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival. Being well away from the bar area it was one of the few places in the festival where you could actually hear the music over the loud talking beer drinkers who weren't interested in music. bubblyrat, the White Bear, like most pubs in Middlewich, is well within walking distance of all canal moorings, of which there are plenty. If you're looking for folk music canalside the MFAB is well worth a visit, and if I may publicise a canalside folk event in March on the Macclesfield Canal try : http://www.pyramidfolk.co.uk/wharf_index.htm. Bollington Folk Club on the Macclesfield Canal is very close to the canal and has excellent singers nights and good guests. Unfortunately Middlewich is outside the 15 mile radius of Stockport which the folk hub website http://www.pyramidfolk.co.uk/index2.htm covers so I can't add a link to it. I would say, however, that an active website is essential if a folk club is to thrive. Word of mouth has it's place but if you are to attract potential folkies who are 'out of the loop' then an up-to-date website is a must. Best of luck. |
