Subject: BS: QUIZ for November 1st From: Nigel Parsons Date: 30 Oct 13 - 04:59 AM Another quiz, with a topical theme. The date in the thread title may help, if not the answer to Q1 is also the theme. As usual with my quizzes, Please do not post answers in this thread to allow others to see it without spoiling the fun. Admittedly, some of this is Anglo-centric. Please feel free to re-use the quiz elsewhere. I'm happy to see comments here & claims of scores: 1 Which English/Canadian girl group included Melanie Blatt and Shaznay Lewis, and two Canadian sisters: Natalie and Nicole Appleton? 2 What is the given name of the youngest heir to the throne? 3 Which two actors (squaddies in "Soldier, Soldier") hit the charts with "Unchained Melody"? 4 Of whom was it said: "And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip;"? 5 What name was given to the (UK) great storm of 2013? (28/10/13) 6 Which genus of plants has common names including speedwell, bird's eye, and gypsyweed? 7 Which 1956 #3 hit by Malcolm Vaughan was banned by the BBC? 8 Where (in Spain) were 79 killed in a train crash in July this year? 9 Who was the UK Prime Minister, 1945-51? 10 What name can be applied to a waltz, a dog, or pass? 11 For the Diamond Jubilee in 2012, 3 new cities were created, Chelmsford, Perth, and …where? 12 Sydenham's chorea or chorea minor is a disorder characterized by rapid, uncoordinated jerking movements primarily affecting the face, hands and feet. By what name was it previously known? 13 The word 'groom' is often paired with 'horse' (as in pub names) what other word is it often paired with? 14 The Grand old Duke of York had 10,000 men. Who is the current title holder? 15 Who wrote "Three men in a boat"? 16 Who was the founding abbess of the monastery at Whitby, or (for the populists) whose living room in Coronation Street had 3 ducks on the wall? 17 What is the capital (or largest town) of Jersey? 18 What is the capital of Puerto Rico? 19 Who sits on the left (our right) in the judges for 'Strictly'? Subject: RE: BS: QUIZ for November 1st From: Mo the caller Date: 30 Oct 13 - 05:32 AM Is there a duplication among the answers, and a part answer which doesn't follow the theme? I claim 11. The rest were easy to Google. |

Subject: RE: BS: QUIZ for November 1st From: Nigel Parsons Date: 30 Oct 13 - 05:55 AM Not giving anything away, but I have been known to use the same answer more than once in a quiz. If a 'part answer' doesn't follow the theme all answers have a common link for at least part of the answer. In case anyone does want to re-use it, the answers are already available in the usual thread (which links back to many other quizzes) SQ2 Cheers |
