Subject: Lyr Req: 'Will o the wisp' 'and others From: GUEST,Keith Fry, Melville WA Date: 29 Aug 13 - 11:30 PM "Will o the wisp" "The Skipper" "I fear no foe" "Bankoories" . These songs were sung by my friends father in January 1903 at a concert at the Oddfellows Hall, Wagga Wagga as reported by the Wagga Wagga Advertiser. A challenge I think to trace! If ANYONE can help that would be lovely. Thanks Keith |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Will o the wisp' 'and others From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Aug 13 - 09:47 PM Hi, Keith - It presents an indexing nightmare when people request multiple, unrelated items in a single thread. Q answered your "Wisp" request in this thread (click). Can you give us information about the others? It would be best if you were to start a thread for each piece, and tell us what you remember about each one. With just a title, it can be very hard to find something and be sure it's what was requested. Is this (click) the "I Fear No Foe" that you're seeking? -Joe Offer, Mudcat Archivist- |

Subject: ADD: I Fear No Foe (Oxenford/Pinsuti) From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Aug 13 - 10:02 PM I FEAR NO FOE (Words by Edward Oxenford, Music by Ciro Pinsuti) I fear no foe in shining armour, Tho' his lance be swift and keen; But I fear and love the glamour, Thro' thy drooping lashes seen! Be I clad in casque and tasses, Do I perfect cuirass wear, Love thro' all my armour passes, To the heart that's hidden there! Love thro' all my armour passes, To the heart that's hidden there! I fear no foe in shining armour, Tho' his lance be swift and keen; But I fear and love the glamour, Thro' thy drooping lashes seen! Would I fend a blow so given? Would I raise a hand to stay? Tho' my heart in twain be riven, And I perish in the fray. I fear no foe except the glamour, Of the eyes I long to see, I am here, love, without armour, Strike and captive make of me, Strike and captive make of me! Columbia Record 5799 from The phono-bretto: (phonograph libretto) The indispensible companion of the phonograph, and faithful interpreter of about seven hundred sung and spoken phonograph selections (Google eBook) (1919)

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Will o the wisp' 'and others From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 31 Aug 13 - 11:58 AM Joe, the "Will O' the Wisp" I posted may not be the song sought; that is why I didn't post it here. There are other tunes- see sheet music at American Memory. No way to be sure about this tune. ------------------------------------ Google- Look up "bankoories" and clippings at NOAA about fish market arrivals and prices includes one "Salt bankoory handline cod $4 per cwt" -but scanning the articles, I found several "Salt bankdory handline cod,..." but none with the spelling "bankoory." The song could be about these salt cod. |
