Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival Sept 2013 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Aug 13 - 06:43 AM I like South Hills Park art centre. Spent many an happy hour in the cellar there when my job took me in that direction. Won't be there either as it is too far now and I am at a wedding anyway. But if the Morris Dancers were in the bouncy castle I think I may have made the effort :-) Cheers DtG |

Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival Sept 2013 From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 23 Aug 13 - 12:59 PM Very fond memories of Bracknell Folk Festival back in the late 70's early 80's It was my Son's first festival at the age of 11 months back in '87. The singing in the cellar completely altered my attitude to traditional folk song, fabulous doesn't come close to describing it. I'm still after the words however to a song done by two Canadian lassie which started One fine summers day a woman went walking down by the river so gentle and free and there she espied a beautiful sailor sitting alone in the shade of a tree she boldly stepped up to this young man pray tell to me from whence you came for my eyes have not feasted on such beauty and may never do so again. She then goes on to have her wicked evil way with him and he ends up crying "oh Mother I am quite undone" It was a brilliant role reversal and I have been after the words for over 30 years, can anyone please help! |

Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival Sept 2013 From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 24 Aug 13 - 05:04 AM One of the Wilde Theatre acts is good young shanty singer from Portsmouth, Chris Rickets. I've seen him a couple of times, latest this week and , yes, he DID use a uke for a couple of songs! Caddy Cooper is a local favourite too: an Aussie singer/songwriter/guitarist. RtS |

Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival Sept 2013 From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 25 Aug 13 - 03:40 AM Terry, I've started several over the years, all to no avail. Maybe one day. Someone, somewhere must have programmes from those days and could find the names of the two lassies who I think were Canadian. |

Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival Sept 2013 From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 25 Aug 13 - 02:18 PM Salal sound familiar but I think they came some time after 1980 (ish)I think the two lassies I'm on about went by their surnames. But it is a LONG time ago. But if could ask them I would be very grateful. Thanks |

Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival Sept 2013 From: GUEST,Phil Daniels Date: 04 Sep 13 - 08:04 AM Thank you Roger for bringing this event to the attention of the Mudcat community. I'm sorry you won't be able to make it but thank you for coming the other night to see Chris. This event has taken nearly a year to put together, from the original idea posed to us that the arts centre were looking to re-establish a yearly folk event, until now - and we're all very excited (and a bit scared about how it'll go)! We have a free entry event going on outside on the terrace and lower grounds from midday on Saturday 14th September, with some of the best acts who we have showcased at our regular Folking Live shows performing. Plus a few craft stalls, a real ale bar and indeed Morris from local side OBJ (although not in the bouncy castle......although I could be wrong!) In the Wilde Theatre is a ticketed show featuring Spiers and Boden, Richard Digance and Lucy Ward amongst numerous others. We've tried to keep prices down for that - the most expensive being 22 quid. The South Hill Park box office is the best place for more details - 01344 484123 Although all acts on stage are booked - we do have a short 'floor spot' session included outside at around 6pm and also we're actively encouraging any musicians to bring instruments or songs for some spontaneous performance and sessions etc. The arts centre is such a lovely space that it would be perfect to have some acoustic performances up on the terrace, or in one of the stately home rooms for example. Anyway - sorry to hijack the thread, but I thought it right to give you all a run down. It would be fantastic to see some of you there. Cheers Phil |

Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival Sept 2013 From: My guru always said Date: 04 Sep 13 - 08:43 AM This looks great, well done for getting this started up again! My Other Half (Richard Atkins) has fond memories of Bracknell Fest and I'm sure we'll try to pop along. I might see if I can get a floor spot if it looks like an unaccompanied singer would be acceptable. Hils |

Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival Sept 2013 From: GUEST,Phil Daniels Date: 12 Sep 13 - 09:34 AM Will be fantastic to see you! I'll be the one making a fool of myself trying to announce the acts on stage so come over and have a chat! Just to let everyone know, although the weather is looking awful on Saturday, we are still going ahead with this. We'll be moving as much in to the house as we can so there is limited chance of getting wet. So, if you were thinking of coming along, please please do - it'll be a really good day. Show starts at Midday with a performance from Bracknell Morris side OBJ. Cheers! |

Here's hoping that the forecasters are wrong and that the sun shines for you tomorrow! Good luck with all your arrangements! |
