Subject: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: GUEST,Ed T Date: 02 Aug 13 - 07:17 AM My showe size used to be 10. It now is size 11, What's up with that? A friend who works as a shoe salesman says the larger selling shoe size size has increased over the past 20 years in his store. Is there something in the water that is causing it, or has there been some upward change in the sizes? Has your size changed (and I don't refer to Jagger-type issues). I known this topic could be overtaken by religion or even the abortion debate - but, it's a chance I take in opening a new thread on a pressing issue. By the way, I am geting to mudcat from a Backberry, and I can't seem to reset my cookie- thus the guest status (and, no, I am not tuening into a Musketeer:) |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Charmion Date: 02 Aug 13 - 08:27 AM I wore a 7 1/2 (38 in Europe) in most kinds of shoes for years and years. Around age 40, I stepped up to size 8 (European 39), and now I'm in my late 50s I find myself edging toward size 9, especially in sneakers. I know the change is in me, and not the standard sizes of shoes, because I still have several pairs of shoes purchased up to 30 years ago. The green suede heels I bought in 1986 are now much too small, although they were actually so big on me when I bought them that I had to put half-insoles in them. I believe this change is caused by spreading of the feet, the natural result of decades of supporting my not-inconsiderable body weight. Just think of it as yet another gift from gravity. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: jacqui.c Date: 02 Aug 13 - 08:27 AM Could be weight gain -when I lost a lot of weight my shoe size went down. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Charmion Date: 02 Aug 13 - 08:35 AM Weight loss made all my shoes loose the first time I did it, at age 30, but more recent campaigns resulted in a significant change in body weight but not in foot size. My current fitness kick has taken me from 201 pounds to 164 since January, but my feet remain unchanged. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Spleen Cringe Date: 02 Aug 13 - 08:36 AM I'm with Charmion on this. I've gone from a 9 to a 9.5. The increased has sync'ed with an increasing girth... Of course, another explanation is that the manufacturers are skimping on leather and we are all still lithe and dainty of foot. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Becca72 Date: 02 Aug 13 - 08:44 AM I've gone from a 9 1/2 in my mid 20s to an 11 in my early 40s... |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: frogprince Date: 02 Aug 13 - 08:53 AM Yes: the first shoes my mamma bought for me were much smaller than what I wear now. Allegedly standard sizes can vary a lot. I still wear size 8 in most shoes, as I have for my adult life. But I have had joggers in size 10 or 10 1/2. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: GUEST,Chongo Chimp Date: 02 Aug 13 - 09:08 AM My shoe size ain't changed in a long time, but my jock size keeps goin' up year by year. I don't know why that is, but it's cheaper than buyin' new shoes, so I ain't complainin'! Ook! Ook! Matter of fact, I find that shoes tend to get in the way. I lose ten useful digits whenever I put on a pair of shoes, and they are useless when you want to scale walls, climb trees, etc. For this reason, I only wear shoes on formal occasions, and I make sure they are slip-ons, for quick removal in case of emergency. Did you know a Chimp can throttle two opponents at once, usin' his hands and his feet? It's very useful not havin' shoes on when yer in a fight...although they are pretty good for kickin' and stompin' purposes. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: GUEST Date: 02 Aug 13 - 09:55 AM Not noticed this in shoes but several years ago noticed in shirts that some had started being made to the nearest metric size below so a 15.5 inch collar was actually 39cm. That fraction of a centimetre doesn't seem much but you start to feel it when you have to wear a tie for 8 hours a day. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Bill D Date: 02 Aug 13 - 11:16 AM I used to be a 10-10½...now 11 or more. Not only are the shoes (97.421% Chinese it seems) getting smaller, they are not properly shaped. I am no heavier, my feet have not changed, yet I can't find many shoes that come close to the proper contours. I have a couple of OLD pair that the sole still seems to be the right shape, but newer ones seem to have awkward ridges and 'lines' that press in the wrong places. I add various inserts...foam, gel, etc... but I can still feel the problems. Do I have a conspiracy theory about the Chinese? Well..... I'm considering one. (I have NOT gone to high priced specialty shoe stores.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Ebbie Date: 02 Aug 13 - 11:47 AM My shoe size hasn't changed - at least in most shoes - but I have noticed that my feet no longer have as high an arch as they did. I am not yet flat-footed but at this rate I will get there. Might that be a reason for needing longer shoes? |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 02 Aug 13 - 12:36 PM My shoe size has gone down from 6 to 5 over the years. They've also got narrower and are now very thin. Wish I could say the same about the rest of me. I've gone from a small size 8 (plenty of room at that!) when young, to a horrible size 20 (aaaaagh!) in my dotage. I've also shrunk height-wise, but I'm told that's normal for a little old lady. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: EBarnacle Date: 02 Aug 13 - 01:32 PM Depending on the maker, my shoes are anywhere from size 12 to size 14. Some pairs work better with my edema when it is at its worst. I have always favored wide shoes as my feet have always been wide. It is very difficult to find boat shoes in E or EEE any more, even from LL Bean. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: gnu Date: 02 Aug 13 - 02:44 PM Musket! Whassup? Ye are on a roll lately. Big time. Ye been makin me laff near eb=very thread. Whas this ne spring in yer step? Far as the shoe thing, I wouldn't notice so much on accounta I have always bought my footwear "roomy". I have rather wide feet and hands. Alas, the general population of yer female types know not of that which such as medicos, mostly female nurses, do. I would comment on corresponding appendages with regard to age but I lost 110 pounds over the last several years and Little Gary became, well, Bigger Little Gary. Due to weight loss or due to "spreading with age"? Who knows? I don't... and *I* don't care. >;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Little Hawk Date: 02 Aug 13 - 10:26 PM He used to claim he could pee off local highway bridges and touch the river with the end of his dick while doing it. This in-dick-ates considerably more than 3 feet of length, but I would not recommend him trying it in Florida. Too many gators. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Ron Davies Date: 03 Aug 13 - 04:50 PM I'd certainly agree with those who speculate that a reason shoe sizes would go up is weight gain. Though Bill D sure has no problem with that--his theory about the Chinese makes a lot of sense. I've been 10 1/2 shoe size forever---maybe it's just that I don't buy shoes much. You can't rely on any former size for clothing to remain the same; some increase, some decrease. Seems to have a lot to do with the fact that stuff is manufactured all over the world these days, then shipped. And there is absolutely no uniformity on sizes between the manufacturing countries. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: GUEST,Guest - Lin Date: 05 Aug 13 - 02:16 AM I wear a Woman's Size 5 1/2 (yes, small feet), once in a great while I will wear a Size 6 (with some boots) because I wear socks with them, but mostly Size 5 1/2 or 5.5 in USA. I think that is about Size 3 or 4 in UK. Have always worn this size since I was a teenager, a long time ago. I also wear sneakers a lot or what we call "Toners" with kind of a wedgy heal, also in Size 5 1/2. I can even wear a Size 5 on occasion with certain shoes, such as sandals with open backs to them. I do like having small feet but a little harder to find my size sometimes. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Pete Jennings Date: 05 Aug 13 - 07:08 AM Bought a pair of boots 11 years ago, size 7E. Recently bought a new pair exactly the same, same size as well. Weight still pretty much the same at 9 and a half stone. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Bat Goddess Date: 05 Aug 13 - 09:51 AM I've got from a 7 or 7-1/2 at age 21 gradually over the years to 8-1/2 to 9 here at age 64. Gravity, I would imagine. Plus I weigh about a hundred pounds more than I did at age 32 when I met Tom (the incredible cook). I still have my old pair of Acme western-style riding boots that I bought in 1962 -- men's size 6-1/2. Even if I could fit into them now (they were once big enough that I had to wear heavy socks), I can no longer wear any heel at all. Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Has your shoe size increased? From: Rumncoke Date: 06 Aug 13 - 07:07 AM Now I think about it, my shoes were feeling a little tight a few years back, but then I bought a trampoline - I was a few years shy of 60 back then. After building up the time I could jump on it, I did notice that my shoes were fitting better. Presumably it was due to the particular type of exercise - I had noticed that my feet did ache just a little at first, possibly the tendons and other internal structures were getting a workout. Having put on some weight I would never have dared to jump as high on solid ground, but the trampoline is low impact. I can wear the same size now - so shoes from way back still fit. Having always bought comfortable but slightly pricey footwear that is a relief. |
