Subject: BS: Northwest Passage open for trade From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 25 Jul 13 - 04:18 PM The Northwest Passage is now reliably open for shipping. Russia can send its natural gas directly to China. With Total(France) and the Chinese National Petroleum Company, Novatek (Russia) is building a $20 billion natural gas plant on the Russian Arctic coast. Exxon Mobil (and subsidiary Imperial) and Statoil of Norway are also expected to take advantage of the seaway opened by global warming. One result possibly will be less demand for similar installations on the Gulf of Mexico. |

Subject: RE: BS: Northwest Passage open for trade From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 25 Jul 13 - 11:49 PM Canada's soverign teritory, long ignored by friend and foe, will be now even more blatenly violated! A pity, but we seem lacking in the balls to defend what is ours! Both Russian and American subs have long violated our domain under the ice, and with the melting polar cap they now feel free to continue on the surface! A pox on them all! |

Subject: RE: BS: Northwest Passage open for trade From: GUEST,Teribus Date: 26 Jul 13 - 05:45 AM Can't really see the benefit of the Northwest Passage to Russian natural gas exports to China - Wouldn't they use the Northeast Passage? - or alternatively why not just pipe it there overland? Northwest or Northeast Passages would be deemed as international waterways with right of peaceful passage open to all. |

Subject: RE: BS: Northwest Passage open for trade From: GUEST,sciencegeek Date: 26 Jul 13 - 09:29 AM Canada's soverign teritory, long ignored by friend and foe, will be now even more blatenly violated! jeeze... ever hear of NATO? we can thank Hitler, Stalin and later Mao for the crazy situation that developed since the early 1940's... or maybe it is just human nature to covet more than you need. History is full of greed SOBs who waged war for the sole purpose of grabbing more land, resources, etc. If you don't like your taxes now... try paying for the armed forces needed to "defend" that amount of territory on your own. Trust me... it'll bleed you dry... just like it is doing to us in the states. we only have the one planet, so let's try to share nicely ... and stop spritzing like a d*mn tom cat all over the place! |

Subject: RE: BS: Northwest Passage open for trade From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 26 Jul 13 - 10:21 AM China's burning of coal and diesel is an important source of air pollution and global warming. Supplying clean-burning natural gas sounds like a good thing. |

Subject: RE: BS: Northwest Passage open for trade From: gnu Date: 26 Jul 13 - 01:53 PM I beg to defer, Sandy mah b'y. I have been there along with a hundred Japanese tourists who are inordinately taken with red hair and chatty prissies. I have also seen the play (the rights to the play are included as long as the play is only performed in the Arctic on Febrrrrrary 30th). Trust me, it's as real as PEI Red Mud and Bud The Spud. Noooo... don't ask fer Bud The Spud... not fer trade. Just in... Big Joe Mufferaw has offered ta provide soverign security for The NW Passage IF he can put 29 bootmarks on Stevie The Harpy's ass first. Joe is the best man in Ottawa in my books. |

Subject: RE: BS: Northwest Passage open for trade From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 26 Jul 13 - 01:59 PM Ban Green Gables! The Northern Sea Route is another name for the Northeast Passage. The name Northwest Passage specifically applies to the route along the Canadian Arctic coast and islands, but the press often refers to both as "northwest Passage," incorrectly as I have done. In any case, both seaways are now open to traffic, and enabling all countries bordering the polar region to use them. |

"In any case, both seaways are now open to traffic, and enabling all countries bordering the polar region to use them." As should be the case. I find this rather unfortunate as I was hoping to dupe the Ruskies into takin Anne at least. Probably wouldna worked anyway. Burning all that natgas and fuckin up the environment beats takin on that gabby carrot top. |
