Subject: Tech: Leeneia in Wonderland From: leeneia Date: 07 Jul 13 - 09:45 AM I did a search on 'Swedish folk tunes.' Not a crime, is it? Google decided to make my language Swedish. To change my language back to English, I had to sign into my Google account. In Swedish. Lucky I had one already (a g-mail account) I battled my way to a page which let me change from Svenska to Engelska, then I had three options: Upgrade (?) Be awesome (!) Add people I don't think I'll ever be awesome, so I chose to Add People and then not actually add any people. I've been warned that I'll be lonely, but I think I can live with it. My gmail account is in English now, but Google searches are still talking Swedish. For example, on the top of search results it says Webben Bilder Kartor Shopping FlerSökverktyg Videor Nyheter Böcker Bloggar Diskussioner ApparPatent Any suggestions? |

Subject: RE: Tech: Leeneia in Wonderland From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 07 Jul 13 - 02:47 PM leeneia - when I open google (.co.uk for me) there's a Settings link at the bottom right of the search page. If you click that and select Search Settings you should see a page which on the left hand side has a Languages link. If you click that you'll get an option to select the language. (You might also check that there's nothing odd on the Location page too!) Mick |

Subject: RE: Tech: Leeneia in Wonderland From: leeneia Date: 07 Jul 13 - 03:55 PM Thanks very much, Mike. I didn't think to go way, way down before I searched for help. Silly me! My results page didn't have Settings, but it did have "Google.com in English." So I clicked it, did another search, and the results all came up in English. I do hope the change sticks. Apparently my computer began to get the funny feeling that since my ZIP code, phone numbers and gmail account are in America that I might appreciate the chance to speak English. Too bad that I completely missed my chance to be awesome. (I am not making that up.) Now to check out the Location page... |

Subject: RE: Tech: Leeneia in Wonderland From: leeneia Date: 08 Jul 13 - 03:26 PM Aw, Will, you are so sweet! M, I don't know the answer, but I feared I would be transmogrified to a pudgy San Fernando valley teenager - an infamous Valley Girl. Valley Girls are the people who made 'awesome' mean anything from 'miraculous' to 'rather nice.' No way was I going to click that button! |
