Subject: Tech: win 8. Mudcat aqua. help! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 03 Jul 13 - 09:38 AM A week ago, our faithful desktop, with its Windows XP, seemed to have bought the farm. We had been talking idly of getting the DH a laptop of his own, so we did. For days now, we have been slogging through the bad dream that is Windows 8. Can anybody help, really help, with just one problem? The thread titles on the Mudcat forum page have changed in color from royal blue to a pale aqua. It's hard to read. I have tried the obvious ways of making this page darker - Settings, Control Panel, Accessibility. Any suggestions? Don't bother telling me I am the wrong generation. That's not an answer, that's an alibi. |

From: JohnInKansas Date: 03 Jul 13 - 11:23 AM The color settings at mudcat (and elsewhere on the web) should be in your browser, and are independent of the OS. In IE, Tools|Internet Options|General Tab should have a "Colors" button that will let you pick what you want. I can't advise about other browsers. John |

Subject: RE: Tech: win 8. Mudcat aqua. help! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 04 Jul 13 - 09:10 AM Thanks for your interest, John. But there's news. 1. In Windows 8, IE doesn't have the Tools bar anymore. 2. Yesterday Office Depot took back the laptop we had just bought because so many things didn't work on it. Perhaps the aqua problem will go away. Let's consider this thread closed. |

Subject: RE: Tech: win 8. Mudcat aqua. help! From: JohnInKansas Date: 04 Jul 13 - 11:05 AM I haven't looked at Win8 much, since all the new features are useless (and/or harmful) for me, but several recent versions of IE have not shown the toolbars by default. A little "gear" icon may show some options, or right clicking on the address bar might still let you turn on toolbars, despite Microsoft's new theory that only people too stupid to use toolbars should buy new Microsoft stuff. (?) Our concern for your success demands that we must ask what you plan to do instead of Win8 ... ? ... but it only matters if you feel like telling us. John |

Subject: RE: Tech: win 8. Mudcat aqua. help! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 04 Jul 13 - 04:33 PM We traded the new Lenovo computer in after one week for an HP which does not have a touch screen. We've figured out the difference between the simulated Start desktop and the real desktop, and we've figured out 'charms.' We'll go with Windows 8 while hoping that the worst is over. Also, we're hoping that the promised 8.1 upgrade will help. Some of our problems may have been flaws in the computer we have returned. I dunno - do other users of 8 find themselves on IE screens with no URL box, no forward arrow and no back arrow? Good thing I know the ancient lore (alt + F4) to get out of there. heh heh I suspect that in five years someone will write a book about how two executives at Microsoft hated one another's guts and each one tried to undo the other's accomplishments. The result was Windows 8, where the last person anybody cared about was the customer. |
