I've never been as it has been the same weekend as my folk club in the past, but it has moved so I might just be there this year. I'll see if I can get a few reviews for you. Some of us went there last month for a wedding & I can report that Yass is a beautiful village & I took lotsa' pics. The main concert venue is the Soldier's Memorial Hall, built in the aftermath of the first World War. If you do get there make sure you visit the small Museum next to the park & almost opposite the supermarket. The exhibition 'Parallels' shows cardboard cutouts of past buildings along the main street matched by photos of what is there today. sandra |

Subject: RE: Turning Wave Fest From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 30 Jun 13 - 06:17 AM another comment from folks who missed Turning Wave last year - I'd forgotten when I asked them As you know we didn't go last year when it moved to Yass as we were in Ireland, so can't comment on the arrangements in the new home town. We went several times to Gundagai and loved it; it was well run and lots of venues there, I expect they have about the same number in Yass. This year I see there's a very good flautist from Ireland, one of the Villalley family, and other visitors, and a good local line up. The early concert with the visiting instrument teachers is always a treat of fine music, and they had a busking tradition in G that should continue (that's where young Cameron Mather started) so the festival comes highly recommended if you love Irish music particularly, and folk in general. cheers, |
