Subject: 'Brownie' McNeil - Norman Laird McNeil From: Thomas Stern Date: 23 Jun 13 - 03:20 PM Brownie McNeil taught at a number of Texas colleges, was a collector or Southwest folklore, made a significant collection of CORREDOS, and sang. Active in the Texas Folk-Lore Society (President for a number of years in the 1940's), and contributor to their publications. His field recordings are at the Library of Congress and the University of Texas. I am aware of 3 albums by McNeil: 1950 SONIC 78rpm BALLADS 1957 SONIC LP FOLKSONGS 1973 Ex-Students Univ of Texas LP SONGS OF THE CHISHOLM TRAIL Does anyone: have recollections of him? biographical information? know of any other recordings of him? I think pagination is the same in both editions but only have the 2nd, 1965, at hand right now. |
