Subject: BS: Wood Island Lifesaving Station - Maine From: Bat Goddess Date: 08 Jun 13 - 06:07 PM The abandoned Wood Island Lifesaving Station has been part of the Piscataqua Riverscape between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine since well before I moved to the area and started spending time on the river and coastal vistas in 1980. I would truly hate to see this structure demolished, especially when there are people willing to restore it and put it into public recreational and educational use -- at no cost to the taxpayers. (It would cost the Kittery, Maine taxpayers over a quarter million to demolish it.) Here's the story. And, please, watch the video. My friend Sara Shoman (sister of Tom's banjo playing musical partner of the past 40+ years) is the videographer who made it. Linn |
