Subject: Origins: Oliver Twist Singing Game From: GUEST,Nina Date: 05 Jun 13 - 12:35 AM I am looking for the singing game that goes with the "Oliver Twist" varient that was collected by Diane Hamilton in Co. Tipperary, Ireland in the 50s-60s, as sung by the Clancy Family. I have the song transcribed, but would like to add the game to my teaching repertoire. (I am a certified Kodaly music educator and teach at the elementary level.) Thanks for your help! |

Subject: RE: Origins: Oliver Twist Singing Game From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 05 Jun 13 - 07:40 AM According to the sleeve notes, Diane Hamilton was to publish a book, also called So Early In The Morning, with way to use the material, presumably including the games. However, I can't find any reference to the book. The Roud index shows that the song was published in several other collections (Sinclair: Games a Bogie (1989); Smith: Blue Bell Hill Games (1982); Opie: Children's Games With Things (1997), Cumnock Academy: Bluebells My Cocke Shells (1961)). I imagine similar games will be used. There's an online example here: Oliver Twist Mick |
