He definitely believes in a Divine power...therefore must have some concept of God...but he seems to place Chimpanzees at the top of the evolutionary chain, with other apes and monkeys as runners-up...and humans a step or two back from that. Oddly enough, though, his Messiah figure is King Kong who "died on behalf of you and me". King Kong is, of course, a Gorilla, not a Chimp. Chongo prays in his own particular fashion, but he does not attend any church, believing that "you don't gotta go into some building to find God". I pointed out to him that the building itself isn't the point at all...the point is fellowship with other people in community. He said, "Yeah, okay. Well, that's what I go to the bar for, see?" His religion appears to involve ideals such as... "Do unto others like the same way they would do unto you. Shoot 'em first and don't ask questions." "If you're gonna get drunk, don't be half-assed about it." "Always treat a lady with respect...even if she's a proskirt...cos she coulda been yer mother." "Never smoke cheap cigars. Only the best from Cuba." "Always keep a clean and loaded gun." "Peel yer bananas from the stem end first." "Always use sufficient force to get the job done." "Avoid dogs and small children." "Answer any criticism with a big grin, followed by a knee to the groin and a backfist to the Adam's apple." |
