Subject: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Ebbie Date: 06 Apr 13 - 06:16 PM You thought Tammy Faye Bakker was bad? Have you looked at a person called Jan Crouch? The things one misses when one ignores them... For years I have click, clicked past religious television channels without ever stopping for a look. Today I saw that a child was speaking so I clicked back and I was amazed. Franklin Graham - yeah, son of the Graham - was speaking with the most gawdawful looking woman I've ever laid eyes on. The most outrageous madam of a brothel (not that I've met all that many) couldn't hope to compete with her for pure (a relative term) buffoonery. Eye lashes extending two inches from her face, piled up pinkish-blonde hair/wig cascading down her back, pinkish glistening lipstick smeared on 'enhanced' lips, a dress with cutout shoulders that must have cost a pretty penny if only for yardage. This is a religious woman? Sorry to stomp on the 'christian message' but danged if I don't feel like the proverbial hippopotamous that comes from nowhere to stomp out a campfire (anyone else remember Crocodile Dundee?). Why would anyone listen to, not to say, follow a person like that? |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Ebbie Date: 06 Apr 13 - 06:32 PM Your remark, pdq, is just as catty. *g* The hippo's dress needs to be longer. And the lipstick - and the eyelashes- more prominent. I have tried to link to photos of her but it won't let me do it. Just google her for giggles. |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 06 Apr 13 - 06:34 PM For the past 39 years, Jan Crouch has served as TBN's vice president and director of network programming, as well as the director of programming for TBN's affiliated networks, such as the Smile of a Child children's channel,[6] the JCTV youth network,[7] The Church Channel,[8] the TBN Enlace USA Spanish language network,[9][10] and others. She is also the President of The Holy Land Experience theme park in Orlando, FL, and manages the day to day operations of the park.[1 It looks like she is more of an employer than a leader. "Holy Land Experience" I'll bet you want that. pdq....its not "mud" if it is true right? |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Ebbie Date: 06 Apr 13 - 10:30 PM The story is really rather sad. After I put up this thread I went looking for more information and found lots. The seemingly inevitable greed, fighting, accusations, scandal, divorce and fraud. Found some other headlines of various other 'leaders' of the airways. Didn't bother opening those links- just more of the same. I tend to think that politicians first go into politics with the aim of making a difference in the world and then become seduced by easy money, the lure of power, the perils of compromise. I wonder if the same process is true of most televangelists? |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Don Firth Date: 06 Apr 13 - 11:41 PM One of the most enjoyable jobs I've ever had was working for a classical music radio station. But the enjoyment came to a screaming halt when the station was sold to a couple of diddle-heads who had run a small town station before they decided to move to the big city. They were going to make their fortune by running an acne-Rock station. But they were informed that KJR had that locked up. So they decided to go all-news, but a local station had gone bust at about the same time they received a Peabody Award for news excellence. So they decided to go "canned religion." Local pastors, ministers, rabbis, evangelists, and such would pay to have their sermons and talks broadcast on the station. A whole batch of guys who had failed in the used car business had set themselves up as evangelists. My job was to sit in the production booth and tape these dudes doing their sermons and talks. I think the whole bunch of them had received their Doctor of Divinity degrees by mail-order. There would be about five minutes of "sermon," and the rest of the half-hour they spent begging for contributions and donations to "further God's work" in Africa, Asia, and Mars, although NONE of these bozos actually had a church, nor were they dispatching missionaries much of anywhere! "Keep those cards and letters—and your generous contributions—coming in, folks. Send your checks to post office box 888. Now that's box 888, the same forwards, backwards or upside down. . . ." After a couple of weeks of this, I got tired of up-chucking in the waste basket and turned in my resignation. The station has moved onward since those days. It is now the Seattle outlet for Rush Limbaugh! Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: mg Date: 07 Apr 13 - 02:17 AM I haven't seen her in a while but she fascinates me. I have no idea if she and her husband are scamming people or doing miracles..I think they do some water well stuff that seems good..I like how she goes to orphanages, particularly in Haiti and interacts with the kids....I think on that level at least she is very sincere and impressive, and yes, I would follow her in that endeavor. |

|
Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Janie Date: 07 Apr 13 - 04:54 PM At least, Dolly a bit earlier in her career. Dolly still has the big hair and fake eyelashes but admittedly better done, and within the context of her making clear it is a persona. Didn't follow any of the links other than the first that gave the image of the person, so that is all I am responding to (...er...to which I am responding:>) |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Don Firth Date: 07 Apr 13 - 04:58 PM Somehow reminds me of the comment, "She's had so many face lifts that she'd save time and money if she just had a couple of turnbuckles installed......." Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Janie Date: 07 Apr 13 - 05:15 PM For once, I agree with pdq. Ebbie, you know how much I esteem you. I'd suggest there is benefit in missing stuff by virtue of having made a conscious and well thought out decision to ignore it. And when one doesn't ignore it, by chance or otherwise, there may be wisdom in not commenting. Generally speaking, this thread has quickly become remarkably petty. |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 07 Apr 13 - 05:34 PM You've got to admit though Janie, that the lady's general appearance isn't exactly redolent of moral rectitude. In fact, quite the reverse. Don T. |

" "And when one doesn't ignore it, by chance or otherwise, there may be wisdom in not commenting." "Generally speaking, this thread has quickly become remarkably petty. " Generally speaking. Mrs. Crouch is a public figure. The way she presents herself is public record and subject to comment and to parody and satire. I'm glad Ebbie started the thread. I had heart of TBN and that theme park. Know that that woman is behind them put that knowledge in a whole new (and probably more accurate) light. |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Janie Date: 07 Apr 13 - 06:20 PM Not dissing anyone because of their appearance, gnu. That was my point. Not quite sure what to say, Don. Can you provide a link to some female's picture whose appearance is rendolent of moral rectitude? Seems to me there is a lot of sexism apparent here, though I don't think anyone intends that. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Janie Date: 07 Apr 13 - 06:28 PM I agree with you, Jack. I just don't think men are subject to the same type assumptions based on appearance, and therefore, of cruel judgement based on appearance as are women. |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Janie Date: 07 Apr 13 - 06:53 PM Don't Put Her Down, You Helped Put Her There Custom Made Woman Blues don't know a thing about any of the performers, but am guessing they fit the female image of "moral rectitude" much closer than whatshername who is being satired. All I can say is Hazel Dickens was a heck of songwriter and I'm sorry I couldn't find you tube vids of she and Alice Gerrard performing these two songs. |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 07 Apr 13 - 07:09 PM ""Not quite sure what to say, Don. Can you provide a link to some female's picture whose appearance is rendolent of moral rectitude?"" No need for pictures Janie. Just look at the difference in the appearance of most local pastor's wives. Certainly we have few if any vicars' wives this side of the pond, who would be wihin a quantum leap of her flamboyant, cheap and tarty look. I thought the OP hit it pretty well spot on, and since that was Ebbie, I think sexism would be hard to prove. Like most men, I appreciate a beautifully made up lady, and she strikes out on both counts. She is simply scary. Don T. |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 07 Apr 13 - 07:09 PM "female image of "moral rectitude" How a bout Emmylou Harris and Bonny Rait? Michelle Obama? Hillary? Condi Rice? Gweneth Paltrow? Sally Field? A woman can be a woman without putting on makeup with a trowel. "men are subject to the same type assumptions based on appearance," I can't speak for anyone else but I enjoy the jokes about the Speaker of the House being the first Orange-American in Congress. |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 07 Apr 13 - 07:13 PM I have to say, I'm not one to make fun of people for their appearance unless their appearance is their choice and they are not in a position to know better. But the two I mentioned in the last thread and Middle aged overweight Elvis in a form fitting sequined jumpsuit.....fair game! |

Subject: RE: BS: Judge Not Lest Ye... BUT??!! From: kendall Date: 07 Apr 13 - 07:28 PM Most women try to enhance their natural looks. Others make their bad side scream for attention.
