Subject: RE: I bought a banjo today From: Charley Noble Date: 05 Apr 13 - 10:15 PM Kendall- Actually if you'd like to learn more about this banjo go to Banjo Hangout/Collectors Forum and describe it and include a few photos. There are some excellent people there who would be happy to discuss it in detail. If you'd like I'll provide a link but you'll have to become a member to post. Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: I bought a banjo today From: kendall Date: 06 Apr 13 - 06:10 AM Thanks Charlie, I think Guest nailed it. 1927. It was all apart but I'm slowly getting it back together. I borrowed this thing 30 years ago to learn to play the banjo, so, that and having it handed down from an old friend is what makes it valuable to me. I'll post some photos when it is all back together. |

Subject: RE: I bought a banjo today From: Don Firth Date: 06 Apr 13 - 05:33 PM Congratulations, Kendall! I bought myself a Vega "Seeger Model" (complete with Tubaphone tone ring) long-necked banjo back around 1958 or so. Bob Gibson had sung a concert in Seattle, stayed here for about two weeks, and we had a chance to get together several times. He kinda talked me into it. $295.00 at the time. Beautiful instrument, sounded great! But I'm primarily a singer-guitarist, and the banjo, complete with case, weight several tons (or so it seemed). Since I walked with a pair of forearm crutches, I'd managed to work out a way to carry the guitar in its case, but unless I was getting a lift somewhere and had some help, I rarely used the banjo, except that I played the hell out of it at home. Finally I ran into someone who started drooling copiously when he saw it, so I wound up selling it to him. I felt it should get out and get played much more that I was able to, and he was ecstatic! Really nice banjo! I often wished that I'd kept it, but I'm happy that it got a good home. Don Firth |

Subject: RE: I bought a banjo today From: kendall Date: 06 Apr 13 - 09:05 PM I had a long neck Framus banjo back in the mid 70s. Fine instrument but LOUD! and heavy as a bucket of hogs livers. |

Subject: RE: I bought a banjo today From: Mooh Date: 07 Apr 13 - 10:19 AM Being late to the party is sort of my modus operandi, and banjo has wormed its way into my life over a period of 25 years. I dismissed the instrument as a primitive throwback until I was 30, but now, holy Remo brother, I love it. Every so often I get to hear old Vega banjos and always love them, newer ones too. Not being able to afford such a thing, I find myself sufficiently happy with modern Gold Tones (Irish tenor, 5 string and recently a ukulele banjo). Maybe a trade up will happen... In the meantime I'm sure I'm not alone in living vicariously through other Mudcatters. Congratulations Kendall. Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: I bought a banjo today From: jacqui.c Date: 15 Apr 13 - 09:41 AM Pictures here. It is a really nice instrument. The back is very plain right now but we have a fancy resonator to replace the one already on it. |
|
Subject: RE: I bought a banjo today From: kendall Date: 15 Apr 13 - 09:49 AM I bought the fancy one in the bargain bin at Indian Neck about three years ago. Didn't have a banjo at the time, but I knew I would at some point, and it served as a wall hanging for three years. |

You do know that if you play it with your leather coat on around Mary, she'll be completely orgasmic. You might need to call a squad to stand by. Spaw |
