Hiya,

I love wooden jewellery, & copper. Especially fused glass. Hate gold. Nothing expensive for me because it'd only be lost, I'd run over it in my wheelchair, or I'd sit on it. All of it means something; presents bought for references to songs normally.
What sort do you wear ?? Why ??

I love to string glass beads (and sometimes stones) into necklaces and bracelets. All my life I've loved pretty colors - no earth tones for me!

The last necklace I made had sparkling yellow glass beads and silver beads. Before that, I made a necklace of medium-sized midnight blue beads with tiny orange beads in between. The two colors (opposites on the color wheel) set each other off beautifully.

Wearing a piece of jewelry says "I'm not just another warm body in a faded T-shirt, I'm somebody."

I'm not really a jewellery wearer these day, but that doesn't mean I'm getting rid of the stuff I no longer wear!

I wear small 9ct hoops & rarely remove them, & a small silver bangle my sister sent me from Bali in the mid 70s which I've never taken off.

I have about 40 pairs of earrings, including many beaded pairs that I made, lots of cheap glitz & 2 expensive pairs. All are hanging around waiting to be worn again.

When I lost one of my favourite earrings around 10 years ago (a gold coloured metal ankh/Egyptian cross of life with pearlish bead stuck on it, bought c.1974 & worn regularly over the decades) I asked a jeweller to copy it in 9ct gold. I also have a pair of very light-weight but big & bold earrings with a chunk of amber set in the big hollow silver boxes.

I also have some bold beaded necklaces some made by me, others purchased - & a small collection of dainty necklaces.

I have a very small collection of brooches which I occasionally wear, especially the wooly looped flower made by someone at getaway & bought for me by freda underhill last year!

I also have custody of 4 or 5 little family treasures - 2 lockets with portraits of 19th century ancestors & a WW1 commemorative brooch, a child's silver brooch & several broken rings.

I like your comment, leeneia & will try to remember it every day as I do have some pretty pieces. And 3 of them even cost real money, so deserve to be worn!!

sandra

My husband gave me a pair of diamond stud earrings for my 50th birthday. I wear them often -- at the gym, when shopping for groceries and while cleaning the house -- because a lady in diamond earrings is always correctly dressed. Besides, they have threaded backs and consequently won't fall off.

Rings and bracelets bug me when I'm working (legacy of seven years of military service) and necklaces irritate the back of my neck, but I don't like to face the world without earrings.

Hiya,

I've got funny fingers so rarely wear rings, they tend to either get stuck/fall off. My most important piece of jewellery is my magic necklace – thick cord with a call button on to ring when I need help. I had a dragon's claw strung on it.

The holes in my earlobes closed up. I had them re-pierced but over the years they've healed over once more, and at my age I don't think I'll bother again! I adore amber, set in silver or just rough beads on a string. It has a warm feel to it and the colour is so rich. I also like geological stones polished up. The colours are subtle and interesting. I've never been one for precious stones, diamonds and the like. Good job too, as I'd never be able to afford them! (But have to say, watching those TV channels which sell jewellery, I do like a stone called Morganite. It's a pale peachy pink shade, very unusual and super set in rose gold. Dream on Eliza!)

my daughter is making great stuff out of old watch parts that I don't need. Old regulators are highly damaskeened (engraved) and look awesome. Old watch faces make awesome necklaces. Today they call the fashion Steam punk ... cool looking stuff.

I rarely wear jewelry except for functional stuff--a watch and a medical ID bracelet. However, when I travel, I try to find a pendant or a charm that represents the place I go to--a gold-toned pair of Irish soft dancing shoes (pomps) from Ireland, a Robin Hood pendant from Nottingham, an old-fashioned phone booth from London, a cable car from San Francisco, an enamalled egg (Faberge style) from St. Petersburg. Russia, etc. I wear these on special occasions only. I prefer to buy them without chains. Years ago I bought a silver chain and a gold chain. Both are long enough to slip over my head without needing to be fastened. If the hole at the top of the pendant or charm is too small to fit the chain, I have gold and silver jump links from the jewelry department in a craft store that I can put through the holes so I can slip them onto the chain. Oh, I also always wear a plastic bead bracelet one of my step-grands made for me when he was 5.

On my right hand on my pinky I wear 3 rings my late wife's wedding ring, another of her rings, & a Victorian one given to me by a friend. I also were another ring given to me by someone else. On that wrist I wear 2 bracelets given to me by my wife, 2 given by different friends, & 1 bought myself. On my left hand I wear a ring given by friend & 1 I bought myself. On that wrist I wear a watch. I wear 2 silver chains that belonged to my mother, 1 with a Celtic cross on it & one with some strange symbol.I wear a chain made of chrome plated nuts(as in nuts & bolts). I also wear earrings. Some people think I am gay.

I have tons of jewelry but I wear the same few pieces almost every day. On my left ring finger I wear an amber and silver ring I bought for myself; on my right ring finger I wear an amethyst and silver ring from my sister and B-I-L for my 40th birthday last year; I wear my watch on the wrong side (I'm right-handed and I wear it on my right wrist); my earrings are a pair of silver "stars" that I bought at a craft fair in Vermont a few years back; and lastly, I wear an amber and silver "sun" necklace I found in an antique shop in central Maine last year.
