Subject: Lyr Req: a song from John Hammond's first album From: PHJim Date: 21 Mar 13 - 01:29 AM There was an eight bar blues (with a bridge) on John Hammond's first album. I haven't heard this record since the sixties, but some of it keeps coming back and I'd love to get the rest. Well, my baby packed her suitcase And she started on that train She was a married woman But I loved her just the same Well I started to write a letter Had to lay that pencil down I started thinkin' 'bout my baby And the tears came rollin' down And I ain't got no lovin' baby now No I ain't got no lovin' baby now That's all I've got. |

Subject: ADD: Looking for my Woman From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Mar 22 - 02:28 AM I'll bet it's this one: LOOKING FOR MY WOMAN (as recorded by Blind Boy Fuller) My baby packed her suitcase, and she started to the train She's a married woman but I love her just the same Now I was standing here lonely, with my head hangin' low Lookin' for the woman I love, but she won't be back no more Now I start walking; my feet got soaking wet I ain't found my woman, ain't stopped walking yet Now I start to write a letter, but I believe I'll go myself Letter's so-so, but a telegram may get left Now, Lord, Lord, Lordy Lordy Lord Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord I start write a letter, and I lied that pencil down Heart-struck sorrow and the tears come rolling down But did you get that letter, that I dropped in your back yard? I would'a come to see'd you, mama, but your other man had me barred Mmm, mmm, mmmm, Lord, Lord, Lord I'da come to see'd you, baby, but your other man had me barred Yeah! I know you're goin' miss me, rider, when I'm gone I know you're goin' miss me from singin' my lonesome song I'm goin' to the station, goin' 'a look up on the board Train I ride is further on down the road Just as sure, as the birds, fly in the sky above Life ain't worth livin' if you ain't with the one you love Mmmm, mmm-hmmm, said Lordy, Lordy Lord Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord Lyrics are from one of "those" websites, and have not been checked for accuracy. Here's the Blind Boy Fuller recording: Lots of people recorded a song with this title, but it looks like Blind Boy Fuller was first: Blinb Boy Fuller also recorded "Looking for my Woman No. 2": |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req/add: song from John Hammond's first album From: MandolinPaul Date: 03 Mar 22 - 10:44 PM Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee recorded this as Heart in Sorrow. Also, sometime in the 90s, Jackson Delta recorded it as I Ain’t Got No Baby Now - but you’ll have a hard time finding that recording. I also do this song regularly. Here are the lyrics I use (which are close to, if not the same as the above): my [I]baby bought a [V]ticket and she's [IV]heading for the train she's a [I]married woman but i [V]love her just the [I]same CHORUS: [I]don't you know that [IV]i ain't got no baby [I]now don't you know that [IV]i ain't got no lover [V]now oh no said now [I]i said i ain't got no [IV]loving baby now my [I]heart's in sorrow and the [V]tears keep on rolling [I]down i [I]started to write a [V]letter just to [IV]let that woman know that no [I]matter how long she's [V]gone i'm gonna miss her [I]so (chorus) that [I]broke down old [V]fireman and that [IV]cruel engineer that [I]dirty conductor waved the [V]train away from [I]here (chorus) |
