Subject: RE: BS: More useless trivia From: GUEST,999 Date: 12 Mar 13 - 05:26 AM McClellan was called the Virginia Creeper, also. I think it was he who was referred to by Lincoln: 'if he's not using the army I'd like to have it for a while' or words to that effect. |

Subject: RE: BS: More useless trivia From: kendall Date: 12 Mar 13 - 07:30 AM Ok, General Jonathan Wainwright was called "Skinny". It may have been General MacArthur who named him. It certainly wasn't an enlisted man! Thanks for playing, you all did very well. |

Subject: RE: BS: More useless trivia From: Pete Jennings Date: 12 Mar 13 - 11:51 AM Montgomery was a Field Marshall...one up from a General. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: More useless trivia From: kendall Date: 12 Mar 13 - 03:29 PM We dont have Field Marshalls, General of the army is the top rank, 5 stars. We could have had Field Marshalls, but General George Marshall put the kibosh on that idea. He said he didn't want to be address as Field marshall marshall. |

Subject: RE: BS: More useless trivia From: Raedwulf Date: 12 Mar 13 - 06:50 PM It's Field Marshal. One l. And Monty was Monty before he was a General - he was only a Lt.G. at Alamein and he was certainly already "Monty" by then, if not before! So yes, he was General "Monty". |
