Subject: RE: Obit: guitarist and musician Alvin Lee(6 Mar 2013) From: Rusty Dobro Date: 06 Mar 13 - 05:57 PM Sad news. I saw TYA at an early Hyde Park free concert, with Family, Eclection, Fleetwood Mac, Stefan Grossman, Peter Sarstedt, Fairport Convention, and the perennial Roy Harper. And the sun shone.... |

Subject: RE: Obit: guitarist and musician Alvin Lee(6 Mar 2013) From: GUEST,jeff Date: 06 Mar 13 - 06:38 PM A huge influence on alot of people here in the States. Tremendous flair and showmanship. He did an album w/Mylon LeFevre. It has been completely overlooked. Sad as it's a great work. And his 'I'd Love To Change The World' was required learning for an entire generation of acoustic musicians. RIP, Alvin and thank you. |

Subject: RE: Obit: guitarist and musician Alvin Lee(6 Mar 2013) From: GUEST,Clive Pownceby Date: 07 Mar 13 - 08:33 AM I am truly saddened. Time was, back in the late '60s when every other gig at Liverpool Uni. Students Union featured TYA. Absolutely representative of a place and time for me. A fine player. |

Subject: RE: Obit: guitarist and musician Alvin Lee(6 Mar 2013) From: clueless don Date: 07 Mar 13 - 09:29 AM Wow. I have two Tens Years After albums. I particularly like their rendition of "I Can't Keep From Crying", with Alvin on vocals and jazz-style guitar. And from "Stonedhenge", there's the original version of "I'm Goin' Home", plus their rendition of Woody Herman's "Woodchopper's Ball" - my favorite Tens Years After track. I have sometimes heard his guitar playing criticized, but I loved it. RIP. Don |
