Subject: RE: Headway HE4 - comments From: GUEST,jeff Date: 03 Mar 13 - 11:47 AM In 30+ years of professional stage experience my conclusion is ALL transducers are crap when compared to a good condensor mic. Ok, my rant's over. :-) Headways are pricey, but certainly not like Schertler's or any number of a half-dozen odd makers. I've got an old LR Baggs removed from a Seagull and transferred to my Alvarez '87 DY-39. Solid top and laminate sides and back. W/a transducer this guitar sounds as good or better than guitars worth 5 times as much like your Lowden. It's pretty much all in the eq. As a working musician my recommendation would be to get a JJB dual spot transducer w/an endpin jack and the best eq one can afford. They will all double as a passive DI, too. A Rane 31 band would be ideal as the sound is unbelievably clean. Doesn't sound processed either. They are on the used market for 100.00US. I got a stereo one that I use for guitar/mando for 100.00US. It was a clearance deal from a studio looking to liquidate. I was lucky. It's analog, but very clean, nonetheless. |

Subject: RE: Headway HE4 - comments From: Richard Bridge Date: 03 Mar 13 - 01:21 PM I like the Headways. I have a Snake 2 in my Mugen 6 string and a Snake 3 in my Mugen 12 string and I think I have one in one of my Hagstrom J45s, and ALL of them get good reactions from soundmen and audience. I also like the I-beam for sound but it is very feedback prone. I'm kind of inclined to think that in a plugged situation one is looking for a slightly "larger-than-life" sound on the guitar and that a wholly accurate mic sounds less subjectively good in most cases than a bit of colour in the right places. DI boxes are a bit subjective too but IMHO it's really all about input impedance: the more the better! |
