Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: Bill D Date: 16 Feb 13 - 10:43 PM ** OLD ** Jameson? for OLDdude? Sounds good. I do like good Irish, but would rather have a crock of 12 year old Tullamore Dew. |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: Beer Date: 16 Feb 13 - 11:37 PM Wish i could afford good scotch. No disrespect Olddude but Jameson is like Johnny Walker Red Label to me. I will never again buy those 2 Hay! , you may like them and that is great but it does not put me up there with other Great Scotches. |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: Jim Carroll Date: 17 Feb 13 - 04:05 AM Nice drink, but if you have the taste for it, you'll miss the smokey flavour of a good Scotch malt. If you are ever in Dublin, a guided trip around the Jameson distillery in Smithfield is well worthwhile. Jim Carroll |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Feb 13 - 04:10 AM Sorry.......I'm pretty xenophobic on this and I would prefer a Manhattan made with Maker's Mark Bourbon or a Jack and Coke or either of the two straight up over anything normally mentioned around these parts. I personally believe that Maker's Mark offers a possible proof source for some kind of god. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: Rog Peek Date: 17 Feb 13 - 04:30 AM I prefer Bushmills myself. The Old Bushmills Distillery in Co. Antrim is also worth visit if you're that way. Lovely part of the country. Rog |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: Georgiansilver Date: 17 Feb 13 - 05:25 AM Dan.. I think Jamesons is the best Irish whisky..... but I recommend a cheapish 'Grants Sherry Cask' (Scotch) if you can get it where you are..... my nectar....... |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: GUEST Date: 17 Feb 13 - 10:08 AM Jameson's or Bushmill's - SOME places ordering the wrong one can get you a lot of bother ! |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: olddude Date: 17 Feb 13 - 11:47 AM one time in Ireland I had some tallimar dew (sp) ... that was really smooth stuff. The Jameson was pretty darn good .. now what do I know about whiskey ..but i thought it was really smooth. I will have to try bushmills sometime |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: olddude Date: 17 Feb 13 - 11:56 AM well so far my checklist on sampling whiskey is pretty small. In my life so far it has been, moonshine, jim beam, Jack Daniels, Glenlivet, McCallum, Jameson , tallemar dew, and that is pretty much it. Well maybe a bacardi rum in college. enjoy trying something different. |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: Charmion Date: 17 Feb 13 - 11:58 AM Jameson's ordinary is a reliably fine dram. They also do a very nice single malt, rather more costly, that stands up well to the finest cognac in my admittedly arrogant opinion. My favourite Irish is a single malt called Writers' Tears that barely makes contact with the shelf in the boozeteria before some aficionado snaps it up. Scotch, however, is a whole 'nother matter, as it tends to tickle a different segment of the palate. At least, my palate. Your mileage may vary. |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: Bill D Date: 17 Feb 13 - 12:05 PM Many years ago I was in Los Angeles, Cal. for a meeting, (I had recently been introduced to Tullamore Dew) and after the meeting a group of us went to a 'daylight' bar in this fancy hotel..(wide open, lighted...lots of potted plants)...and up comes this waiter in a red jacket..a distinguished fellow with white hair and an English accent....and enquires what we woild like to drink.."Ahh.." says I, "I don't suppose you have Irish?".. "Well, not really, " replies the VEDDY formal fellow, with a slight twinkle in his eye..."..we have Bushmills.." so I grinned at him and ordered a brandy.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Feb 13 - 01:36 PM Carol likes Jamesons. I prefer Canadian whiskey. MMMM Smooth blended Canadian Whiskey mmmmmmmmm Less popular brands like Canadian Mist and Canadian Leaf have the advantage of being smooth and cheap. Just like most Canadians I know. |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: GUEST,Dani Date: 17 Feb 13 - 06:33 PM As an American girl of Irish and Scottish extraction (with a little Polish and German thrown in for good measure), I have to say that Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is fine by me. You top-shelf snobs might come share a sip with me some time : ) I do like a good, clear Jameson's once in a while, but it feels more medicinal. Jack has lots more balance, if you ask me. And it has never, ever given me a hangover, no matter my overindulgence. Sneer away, good folk, sneer if you will. Dani |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: Bill D Date: 17 Feb 13 - 07:10 PM Dani... I'll be right down! I never DISliked Jack, or several other nice whiskeys of that basic type... I just am acclimated to certain tastes, and can't afford to get used to a bunch of others. (which is why I only drink an occasional good wine at holidays, instead of studying wine. Life is too short and $$$$ don't support being TOO much of a gourmet.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: JohnInKansas Date: 17 Feb 13 - 07:39 PM Since I only take the occasional sip for medicinal purposes, Jack Black is a definite winner, with no harshness and sufficient medicinal properties to help with my chronic symptoms. The only problem is that, at $50 for the half-gallon (1.75 L) jug from local sources it's almost as expensive as the few OTC cough syrups that have any effect at all, and I have to limit my treatments to less than fully effective frequency due to the cost factor. The majority of "premium" medicants have sufficiently more "harshness" that they're just trading one symptom for another, with lesser resolution of the existing complaint. There are a few slightly cheaper things that don't induce corrosive effects that are just as bad as the original problem, but few of them are as palliative as Jack for the original complaint. (Cost/benefit analysis doesn't show much gain from using enough more of the cheaper stuff to obtain almost the same result as for the higher priced stuff. I may have to start cooking my own, but the setup for that is expensive too.) John |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: GUEST,JTT Date: 18 Feb 13 - 09:01 AM If you're in Dublin, take the Mitchell's whiskey tasting visit. Green Spot is very nice, also Kilbeggan and Tirconnell. And both Lidl and Aldi have nice own-brand Irish whiskeys (at least, they do in Ireland, don't know if they sell them abroad). |

Subject: RE: BS: Jameson Irish Whiskey From: Jim Carroll Date: 18 Feb 13 - 12:39 PM Incidently; if any of you travel around Europe, particularly round the Med. some supermarkets there sell whiskey at incredibly reduced prices. We were in Northern Italy at Christmas and got a bottle of Scotch Single Laphroig malt for 25 Euro - about half of what it sells for here in Ireland. Also worth looking out for (if your tastes are inclined that way is Glen Grant - also a single malt and as far as we know, not available in Ireland (can't speak for the UK). We have had a bottle for as little as 10 Euros - bears no relation to its excellence. This only applies to those returning home with hold luggage; we once watched a little pr*** in Barcelona airport take great pleasure in smashing two bottles into the 'banned goods' container.
