Subject: RE: Chord Req: Bubbles Bangles and Beads From: GUEST,Stim Date: 16 Feb 13 - 10:00 PM Generally, you should check chords to make sure that they work. The wikitones, which starts in F, is good until measure 9, where the chord should be Bm7 measure 10 should be E7. 11 is good with A, and 12 can either stay on A or move to F#m, depending on your taste. 13 should be Bm7, the E7 etc. The chords that start in C seem pretty good(with maybe some confusion at the end) but it is a real pain in the behind when someone hands you chords without the measures marked out, because then you have to work them out again. Also, and it's a minor point, but the tune, though originally in waltz time, became more popular in 4/4. And even less important, the verse, with it's "Think about the Macedonian Oyster, having indigestion in his watery cloister", has been left out. I do love jazz, but I think I like this better the old fashioned way... |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Bubbles Bangles and Beads From: GUEST,Stim Date: 17 Feb 13 - 08:19 PM Those chords are not right, wordfella. The bridge should be in Ab, not in A. And they are not the chords to Peggy Lee's version. She did it in Db. I know that this seems petty, but please remember: Check the chords before you post them, and if you don't know if they are right or not, say so!!! People sweat for hours over this stuff, and they should have some sense of where what's posted is going to get them. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Bubbles Bangles and Beads From: wordfella Date: 18 Feb 13 - 06:49 AM Didn't check 'em. Just knew of a generally reliable link. Who sweated hours over what? Mea culpa, I guess. You're right, though: it sounds petty. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Bubbles Bangles and Beads From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 18 Feb 13 - 08:17 AM Here's the set in Ab. With the exception of the Cm7b5, which I think is necessary, you can as usual simplify the extended(9/11) and altered(#5,b9) 7ths to basic 7ths if you find them too hard to play. Mick BAUBLES, BANGLES AND BEADS (Bbm7)Baubles, (Eb9)bangles, (AbM7)hear how they (Fm7)jing, (Cm7)jing-a-(Bdim7)ling-a, (Bbm7)Baubles, (Eb9)bangles, (AbM7)bright shiny (Ab6)beads. (Dm7)Sparkles, (G9)spangles, (CM7)my heart will (Am7)sing, (Em7)sing-a-(Ebdim7)ling-a, (Dm7)Wearing (G9)baubles, (CM7)bangles and (C6)beads. (F#m7)I'll (B9)glitter and (EM7)gleam (Bb9+11)so, (AM7)Make (Bbm11)somebo-(Eb7)dy (AbM7)dream (Cm7)so (Bm11)that, (Bbm7)Someday (Eb9)he may (AbM7)buy me a (Cm7b5)ring, ring-a-(F7#5b9)ling-a, (Bbm7)I've heard (Eb9)that's where it (Cm7b5)leads, (F7#5b9) (F7#5b9)Wearing (Bbm9)baubles (Eb9)bangles and (AbM7)beads. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Bubbles Bangles and Beads From: GUEST,Stim Date: 18 Feb 13 - 06:47 PM The Cm7b5 is a nice touch, ,Mick, but many play an F7 there and it does the job. Now I can play this in C, F, Db, and Ab, which shows, I guess, wordfella, that I go over this stuff, not necessarily for hours, but till I get it to work. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Bubbles Bangles and Beads From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 19 Feb 13 - 10:14 AM I've been playing this. I've printed out the version on Wikifonia and the piano version of Borodin's quartet. I'm convinced that whoever wrote it down made a common mistake - put the pick-up note as the first note of the song. Try making that first quarter note a pick-up note. Then you will see the chord changes happening at the the beginning of the measures and the weak notes occurring at the end of the measure, as is usual. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Bubbles Bangles and Beads From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 19 Feb 13 - 11:40 AM Wouldn't be Baubles, Bangles and Beads if you did that leeneia. The song is correct as written with 1/4 1/2 in the first 3/4 bar. If you made it 1/4|1/2 1/4 you'd get strange stress on bau-|bles, bang-|les. It's also the way the melody appears in the string quartet. If you look at the pdf of the Scherzo from the IMSLP link above you'll see at the bottom of the 2nd page - bar 29 onwards - that the original melody starts the same way. Mick |
