Subject: RE: BS: 2013 predictions that will not happen From: JohnInKansas Date: 06 Feb 13 - 02:28 AM FACT FROM THE NEWS: (surely an unimpeachable source?) Scientists have identified a "youth gene" that when injected in mice made them recover more youthful health, erased common signs of aging, ... and made them happier. Clinical trials on humans are expected within about ten years if the animal testing already being done doesn't reveal some unacceptable flaw. Those of us who live for another 20 years very likely could get younger before we keel over and take a last gasp. (Although we still might die prematurely of some childhood disease for which we've outgrown our immunity.) So JennyG's suggestion is among those that might not happen sometime within a few years, although it's probably good for 2013 and hence disqualified from the list here since we're asked for the ones that won't be true in the next year. I predict that I'll lose three stone this year, and take so much exercise that I'll be able to walk down to the papershop and not get the car out. I must remember to bring my camera with me, then I can take some photos of the little pink pigs as they fly over our village. |

Subject: RE: BS: 2013 predictions that will not happen From: catspaw49 Date: 07 Feb 13 - 09:04 PM Hawk will admit the advanced power of the Great Hat and yet still not be able toextricate that Dachshund from his ass. He will chant and pray for a longer dick but in the end be left with a tiny cocktail weenie.....virtually nothing. He knows the Great Hat is god although he's never done a trick but he will continue to ignore that greatness which could salvage what little sex life he has. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: 2013 predictions that will not happen From: Amos Date: 07 Feb 13 - 09:34 PM I've salready gotten younger this year, thanks to acquiring a hard-walking dog and quitting smoking. So you can can that one... |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 2013 predictions that will not happen From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Feb 13 - 02:50 AM No, Ebbie, not at all as you are suggesting. What I mean is that a few perpetually hostile and downright vicious individuals on this forum would have had most of their abusive personal attacks on people (and their deliberate stalking of a few people they dislike) deleted on most discussion forums...or would have had their memberships withdrawn, and they would be blocked from further participation. That's a fact on most properly moderated forums. On social sites like Facebook, you can block abusive people who have repeatedly harassed you from accessing your page. I have one good friend who barely bothers with Mudcat anymore because of the bitter, mean old people here and all the arguing and backbiting that goes on here...he enjoys Facebook where most people are a lot more positive, and you can escape harassement from the few who aren't. I am not referring to disciplining people for some harmless kidding around, engaging in a bit of silly joshing, some goofiness, etc...such as Spaw or Rapparee or Amos or I might do, for example. And that isn't grownup...it's more like remembering that one can still be a kid and have some fun from time to time. Do some grownups act the way a few toxic people do on this forum, constantly insulting other people and attempting to intimidate them into silence over some difference of opinion about politics/religion/whatever else comes up? Yeah, some "grownups" do that, unfortunately. Bullies do it. Insecure psychopaths do it. And they're proud of themselves for doing it too. They take delight in the pain they can inflict on other people. They hope to humiliate the other person, and they try many different strategies to achieve that. Grownups can be very mean people if they are so inclined...and some get a lot meaner as time goes by, and their youthful dreams begin withering up and vanishing. In short, you know darned well what I am talking about that's gone wrong with this place roughly since around about the time of 911...or you should...and there's no need to be cute about it. Since I doubt that anything will be done about it, I predicted that nothing will. I also predict that the membership here will keep dwindling, year by year, and not just because we folkies are slowly dying off. I personally know several people in my own town who gave up on Mudcat over the past 10 years, because the place kept getting less and less pleasant to visit. They're all musicians. And they're all nice people too. I guess they don't like bullies, bitter old grouches, and smartass jerks, eh? |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 2013 predictions that will not happen From: akenaton Date: 08 Feb 13 - 04:32 AM I think most(not all) of the bitterness stems from partisan politics, i'm amazed at the obvious hatred of adherents of either party for their opponents......this used to happen in the UK, but its rather dying away these days. We still have the few who believe the rhetoric, but very few. When the weasel words are stripped away both parties can only do what they are allowed to...and what is possible under the system. The biggest buzz word here seems to be "equality" but most people in the real world have accepted that global capitalism is based not on "equality", but "inequality". "Yuh cain't have one without the other" |

Subject: RE: BS: 2013 predictions that will not happen From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 08 Feb 13 - 09:34 AM I think "Don't feed the trolls" is very good advice. After all, the bullies aren't jumping out of your monitor waving an axe. If you don't respond, they can't do a lot can they? At first (I'm fairly new to Mudcat) I was a bit scared, but now I rather enjoy the Great Battles between the Trolls. And I can turn to another thread if I want a gentler discussion. Censorship is always dodgy. I think outright obscenity and blatant racism, for example, should be (and are) removed. But people have strong opinions and it's healthy to vent them on a forum, don't you agree? |

Subject: RE: BS: 2013 predictions that will not happen From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 08 Feb 13 - 09:42 AM ""I guess they don't like I guess they don't like bullies, bitter old grouches, and smartass jerks, eh? eh?"" Well there's plenty of good threads above the line for musicians to dip into without meeting us bullies, bitter old grouches, and smartass jerks, eh? If that's what you think of fellow members, which one of the above does that make you? I tend to think No 3. And a small, but I think, important point....this area is clearly marked BS to distinguish it from the music section, and AFAIK none of the threads are compulsory reading. Don T. |

Subject: RE: BS: 2013 predictions that will not happen From: JohnInKansas Date: 09 Feb 13 - 01:01 AM Exception must be taken to LH's bitter, mean old people a little up above. While he might have in mind a couple of specific ones to whom that description applies, it seems that he's making a generalization that would be difficult to defend. My impression of most of the extremely annoying ones is that they imply an intellectual development that was arrested well before they exited a grade school playground, although a few of those might have read a big fat book somewhere in their formative periods. I, at least, generally attempt to not be mean. I'll admit to being PISSED occasionally at a couple of our contributors. In a diverse society, however, it is necessary to tolerate (and mostly to IGNORE) the occasional troll, regardless of their age. John (old enough to be incredibly wise, so SHUT UP AND PAY ATTENTION) (is there an emoticon for giggles?) |
