Subject: Obit: Stan Musial From: Arkie Date: 20 Jan 13 - 09:31 AM May be out of place on Mudcat, but noted in the morning paper the passing of Stan Musial. Those of us who live in St. Louis Cardinal country thought a lot of him. Great player and worthy of the admiration. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Musial From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Jan 13 - 09:39 AM Every baseball person is a fan of Stan the Man as he really was. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and no matter who your team was, all of us liked Stan Musial. A standup guy to be admired and respected both on and off the field. The Cards have a sort of special meaning for Karen and I as well and we bought some Cardinal jerseys just awhile back. She too will be sorry to hear the news. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Musial From: GUEST,999 Date: 20 Jan 13 - 09:53 AM Stan the Man. Great ball player and a hero to lots of kids. Some of us figured if we could learn to throw left handed it would help our batting. He was equally good at first or outfield, and he didn't need 'performance enhancing' drugs. He joins Hank Aaron, Joe Dimaggio, Ted Williams, Don Drysdale, The Sultan of Swat, Yogi Berra--geeze, what a team up there. RIP Mr Musial and thanks for the life lessons you taught so many kids in my old district. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Musial- Jan. 2013 From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Jan 13 - 01:11 PM They started coming early to his statue in front of Busch Stadium in St. Louis and leaving flowers, note, pictures, and baseball things, around the base in one of those memorial things people tend to do. He was that big and as Arkie said, really popular and well known in the city he loved. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Musial- Jan. 2013 From: Arkie Date: 20 Jan 13 - 04:14 PM There are lots of good articles about Stan available on the internet, but I thought the following worth noting. Although his stats are admirable he is worthy of remembering because of the way he played the game, his loyalty to the fans, and his integrity. The article contained much that I did not already know. Subject: RE: Obit: Baseball hero Stan Musial (1920-2013) From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Jan 13 - 12:24 AM I added a job title so people across the see will know who we're talking about. Stan was one of my boyhood heroes, but it's hard to know what to call him - baseball hero, baseball star, baseball great, or baseball player. I'm thinking Stan would prefer the last one - baseball player. Rest in peace, Stan. -Joe- |
