Subject: BS: Vodafone mms scam? From: Richard Bridge Date: 16 Jan 13 - 11:41 AM I have received an email message from mms@getmyphoto.vodafone.com. It attaches a zip file (alarm bells). The message reads: - "You have received a picture message from mobile phone number +447880198001 Multimedia Messages can be sent by people with camera-equipped mobile phones and may contain pictures, sounds or even video clips. Please note, the free reply expires three days after the original message is sent from the Vodafone network. 2012 Vodafone Limited" Funny that 2012. Funny that I am not a vodafone customer and as far as I can tell from the vodafone website I have to be one to set up a "getmyphoto" account. Has anyone heard of a scam around this? |

Subject: RE: BS: Vodafone mms scam? From: Jack Campin Date: 16 Jan 13 - 12:30 PM I think the zipped attachment you get in those things is a trojan. If you unzipped it, your computer is now well buggered and is sending spam emails on your behalf all over the world or acting as a proxy server for a child pornography torrent. I've been getting them for months and have never opened one of the attachments. I only open a zip file when I know exactly what's inside and why I'm getting it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Vodafone mms scam? From: GUEST Date: 16 Jan 13 - 12:49 PM I've been getting them today too. I got 4 on the trot to a series of speculative addresses - never a good sign. My technical dept. put one in quarantine and examined it - its got an exe file buried in it. I NEVER open zip files unless someone I know has previously let me know they are sending me one for some reason - otherwise I bin them and the emails they're attached to without looking. Paws |

Subject: RE: BS: Vodafone mms scam? From: GUEST,999 Date: 16 Jan 13 - 01:45 PM I go one step further. 1) I trash any email I receive that has things I have to download. Won't do it and folks who write me know that. 2) Even if I know the person, I will not download anything they send, and that's that. 3) I do not open any emails sent from phones, period. They get trashed. 4) I ask/strongly request that my name be taken off any multiple mailing lists. That is usually a condition of giving out my email address in the first place. I hurt a few feelings a while back, but my computer is for my convenience. That's why I call it my computer. If I had a phone I'd say the same thing. No offence meant to anyone. People handle things the way they see fit, and what I wrote is the way I see fit. |

Subject: RE: BS: Vodafone mms scam? From: GUEST,Guest Date: 17 Jan 13 - 08:37 AM I have also had 2 of these this morning, actually tried to phone the first one to see if it was someone sending me a photo or something. This one rang then went to voicemail, when I received the 2nd one I was then sure they just needed deleting. |
